The day of the big game, their dad has another heart attack but at the same time Josh helps his team win their big game. The story ends sadly with the Chuck Bell passing away. One day Marcus attempts to talk with Sal, but he is frightened and runs away. He run out into the street as a car is coming, just in time the laughing man kicks his leg out at Sal. In the end of this story, Sal survived but the laughing man does not. Miranda continues to find letters and realizes that the laughing man is who has been writing them. Miranda's mom goes on $20,000 Dollar Pyramid and Miranda realizes that Marcus and the laughing man are the same person that had traveled back in time. He meets a boy named Shmuel who wears striped pajamas on the other side of the fence. Bruno then begins to visit Shmuel and even bring him food. Bruno gives him good one day while Shmuel is working in the house and he is caught. Bruno denies knowing him and the next time they meet Shmuel is covered in bruises. Bruno family is planning to move and Shmuel’s father is missing so the boys plan their their last day together. At the end of the story, Shmuel brings Bruno a pair of striped pajamas and he crawls under the fence to help look for Shmuel’s father. John died soon after. Tonky and Wanly were left to starve, but a trainer soon feed them because it hurt him to watch them die. A fight breaks out and a gun goes off so she quickly leaves wither friend Khalil. He and Khalil are pulled over. Khalil is searched and asked to stand still. When Khalil returns to the car he is shot and killed in front of Starr by the police officer. Starr tries to deal with the trauma of witnessing two acts of violence in her life. She tries to get justice for Khalil by testifying while protests break out and her family is threatened by the King Lords (local gang). Despite Starr's courage, the office is not charged in Khalil's murder. Protest's break out as a result and Starr gets caught up in them. She speaks into a megaphone on top of a car and then is tear gassed. She and her friends head to her father's store to get milk for their eyes but while they are there the King Lords set the store on fire and trap them inside. They eventually make it out but her father's store is destroyed. The community comes together and says that witnessed the King Lords start the fire and help's the family rebuild.
