I set aside designated time to get certain things done and typically work on my most pressing tasks first. In the past, I have gotten into routines of doing homework for a certain amount of time (30 or 50 mins), taking a short break, and repeating the process. That's something that I've fallen out of lately, but I'd like to get back into that kind of routine

Occasionally, if I'm burnt out, I might reach out to a professor and let them know I need to take a mental health day from class and ask if there's anything I can make up. As for my campus job, if I'm swamped or have an appointment that I had to schedule and can't do a certain task at a certain time, I'll ask a coworker or supervisor if they could cover for me. If I have a lot on my plate and can't hang out with someone how we usually would, I'll let them know that I wish I could meet up but I have to take care of some things and reschedule or plan to see each other another time soon. I don't have much experience asking for extensions when I could really use them, so that's an area where I can improve. A lot of times I won't communicate that I have too much on my plate; I'll just lose sleep instead, which is something that I need to work on.

Email might be preferred over in-person communication for something such as scheduling, or if you are requesting some sort of information that is easier to construe digitally (links, attachments, etc.). Often, I also think emails are better for quick things like brief questions or points of clarification and in-person communication is better for more detailed questions and conversations that need fleshed out over longer periods of time & with more back & forth. This avoids situations where a meeting happens and one or both people walk away thinking "this could have been an email."

Admittedly, I am bad about communicating that I have too much to do, and rather I just power through and work overtime to manage it all. However, I am very in favor of strong communication and generally have no issue asking questions or for help if I need it, so if I ever do have an absolutely unmanageable load at any given time I have confidence that I can explain and politely and respectfully ask for support.
