4. Liverpool Ambulance Service paramedic related an incident of a 53 yr old man calling an ambulance when his body went into shock from alcohol withdrawal. A long term alcoholic (30 years) he has called the Ambulance Service 5 times in 12 months for alcohol related issues.
5. In UK 1.5 million people are either addicted or dependent on alcohol, which is an illness. Challenge for Ambulance Service/A&E is to distinguish addiction/real medical issues from being just drunk.

1. An 11 year old who's tried to commit suicide
2. An elderly woman having died at home whilst being looked after her husband with service dementia
3. 14 year old having taken an accidental drug overdose
4. 21 year old having gone into labour very quickly
5. Young man passed out on a bench, vomitting yellow liquid
6. A woman hit by a car after coming out of a pub drunk and trying to cross the road.
"People need to avoid using the Ambulance Service unless it is a genuine emergency"

    3.    The total annual cost to society of alcohol-related harm is estimated to be £21bn

    4.    The NHS incurs £3.5bn a year in costs related to alcohol

    5.   Admissions for alcohol-related conditions this year remained similar to last year at around a million. This figure has more than doubled over the last 15 years

    6.  Around 70% of A&E attendances between midnight and 5am on weekend nights are likely to be alcohol-related.
