Checkbook - Classroom Economy

For the first half of the school year I used classroom checkbook. I will be switching to ClassDojo at the start of January. Both classroom economies will be used in similar ways. The students will be receiving points for good behavior and get points taken away for disrespectful behavior. ClassDojo will give me the opportunity to reward points or take away points in a more consistent manner.

Cotton Ball Jar
Our jar is used as a whole class reward system. When the class as a whole has been on task and respectful they get a cotton ball in the jar. Usually cotton balls are added at the end of each subject area (2 cotton balls). They have a chance to get up to 10 cotton balls at the end of the day. I will be more consistent in this and give it during lessons when I see good class behavior.

This year as a 5th Grade DL team we decided to focus solely on one subject area and have students switch classes. This allowed us plan more in-depth for the content area we teach (science/SS).

This year we finally got flexible seating! This has allowed me to move around students more frequently while also given the students agency by letting me know what type of table/chair they want.

Using table points has helped students stay focused and transition quicker in class. I also use Ellis vs Guzman for SS/Science, so students are more engaged during lessons.

This year we started a building initiative with math in which we assess students three times throughout a given chapter. With these assessments I can group students, adjust lessons, and even show students the progress they have made.
