They contained organic shapes, and gave an illusion of complexity even though they were all composed of simple lines. I also made good use of thick and thin lines that gave the properties of 3 dimensional space to the patterns. However, despite some elements I added, I still lacked at creating contrast.

I started to apply more thick and thin lines that would give the illusion of space, by making the thick lines seem as if they were shades. I explored with both static and organic shapes, but I figured out that I prefer organic shapes over static shapes, as they granted movement and rhythm in my patterns. I figured some of the patterns started to reflect my personality, which I think is not suppressible, and quite free. I felt that the movement that my patterns had in common displayed the characteristics written above.

I Also considered balance and unity while drawing the piece. To do so, I positioned identical patterns on the opposite sides of the paper. However, my biggest problem was that my piece lacked contrast. Furthermore, my balance, although I have been considering the element while drawing, wasn't strong enough. While skimming through the patterns, designs, researches and annotations that I made, something caught my sight. I looked at what I had done in experiment 1 - 1, which I thought reflected my personality. So I combined the factors that I had in the designs of experiment 1 - 1 with the factors that Jackson Pollock's art contained. They surprisingly blended into each other, because patterns that represented my personality had great movement in them, and Jackson Pollock's piece had a sense of explosion. I started to create a design that symbolized 'volcanic eruption,' and worked on developing the idea.

To give more meaning into my design, I thought of focusing on a social issue that I could satirize. The theme that this design contained was women's right. In an artist's perspective, I loved to draw female body. However, as a female, drawings of naked female body being drawn by many artists over and over made me feel as if female at the time were no more than a subject that artists would use as a source to create a better piece. I wanted to express the irony throughout the piece, but I figured that it didn't reflect my personality as much as I expected it to. Besides, I was clueless about how I could develop the design any further from a messy sketch. So I decided to bring back the artist research - the factors I discovered as I researched Jackson Pollock's piece - to my design, and get back on track.

After failing to create a design out of vacuum, I looked back on annotations I had made while writing an essay about Jackson Pollock, and the factors I could apply in my designs that his artwork(s) had. Meanwhile, I figured out that his drawings, with naked eye, seemed not only like an eruption, but also like a bloom of flowers. As soon as I figured that out, I knew what I should do. I started applying the idea of blossoms into my original plan of design - of representing myself. I wanted to show how the burdens i get as student were tangled up inside my mind, although it may not be seen on the surface.

Experiment 7 - 1: Patterns and Color Scheme

Color scheme that I ended up having for my sculpture was highly affected by Jackson Pollock's artwork. I tried to show contrast in my piece using cold and warm colors, just like how Jackson Pollock did. Cold colors that the face - myself - contained represented the burdens that I had in my mind. The warm colors were the things shown to other people, which were bright and enthusiastic parts of myself. However, warm colors were mixed into the face as I did not want to deny the positive parts of myself although they were often times buried by my worries and concerns, and cold colors were mixed into the flowers - the surface - , because I oftentimes shared my inner concerns with other people, dragging them out to the surface. In artistic perspective, I created contrast using colors as previously mentioned, as well as unity and balance by mixing little bits of cold colors into warm, and warm colors into cold. The movement, I thought, were included in the design itself.

I also applied the dribbling patterns that Jackson pollock had in his drawing, as they seemed to go along with the patterns themselves, and the meanings they had.
