Cassia is a slave born to a Roman owner in ancient Britannia. Her chance for freedom came when she had no choice but to maim her master. Her escape led to an unexpected reunion with her tribe and led to a chance to drive out the Romans from the island. This adventurous tale is gripping and full of twists and turns. I read it in 3 days and sometimes well into the night because I couldn't bear to put it down.
(Available in Sharpe Library)

On a cold Sunday evening in early 1957, Sarah Dewhurst waited with her father in the parking lot of the Chevron Gas Station for the dragon he'd hired to help on the farm. This dragon, Kazimir, has more to him than meets the eye. Sarah can't help but be curious about him, an animal who supposedly doesn't have a soul but is seemingly intent on keeping her safe from the brutal attentions of Deputy Sheriff Emmett Kelby. Kazimir knows something she doesn't. He has arrived at the farm because of a prophecy. A prophecy that involves a deadly assassin, a cult of dragon worshippers, two FBI agents - and somehow, Sarah Dewhurst herself.

It's 1959 The battle for civil rights is raging. And it's Sarah's first day of school as one of the first black students at previously all-white Jefferson High No one wants Sarah there. Not the Governor. Not the teachers. And certainly not the students - especially Linda, daughter of the town's most ardent segregationist. Sarah and Linda are supposed to despise each other. But the more time they spend together, the less their differences matter. And both girls start to feel something they've never felt before. Something they're determined ignore. Because its one thing to stand up to an unjust world - but another to be terrified of what's in your own heart.
(Available in Sharpe Library)

If only she could stop losing her temper and behave herself, her step-father would accept her, her mum would love her like she used to and her step-brother would declare his crushing desire to spend the rest of his life with her. She wants these things so badly she determines to swallow her anger and make her family proud. But pushing fury down doesn't make it disappear. Instead, it simmers below the surface waiting to erupt. There'll be fireworks when it does.
(Available in Sharpe Library)
