¨The clouds grow very dark¨ (172). I chose this particular excerpt because it's short but also important. I think the author included this because it's a good excerpt for the chapter/part of the story where everything goes downhill. There seems to be no hope. The war is especially bad, and Sal has completely lost hope at this point of escaping.

Dear President Roosevelt, my name is Mei and I’m a Japanese American who you’ve sent away to an internment camp. My parents are from Japan and moved to America in 1918. They started a family in California and made a living by farming and selling the produce to a market close by. We have lived like that in peace until now. I understand you are being cautious since the bombing of Pear harbor, but most of the people who you have sent away have nothing to do with the bombing. Our parents worked hard for our citizenship and I am certainly not a Japanese citizen. I was born and raised in America as an American. Here at the camps we are being treated as animals or prisoners, our houses look like chicken coops and we are being fed canned food and bread. The children are being forced to adapt to these new conditions in which there have been very drastic changes. President Roosevelt please take us out of here, check our citizenship, pay close attention to us but don’t lock us up for we are innocent and confused. How long are you going to lock us up for? Will our children be raised here? Will our children grow up without an education or any feeling of the outside world? We did not work this hard to have our citizenship and commitment be thrown away.

But as we see technology vs nature at the end of the story on page 24, it turns against humanity, ¨Ere silence was completed their hearts were opened, and they knew what had been important on the earth. Man, the flower of all flesh, the noblest of all creatures visible, man who had once made god in his image, and had mirrored his strength on the constellations, beautiful naked man was dying, strangled in the garments that he had woven¨. This quote shows nature vs. technology because the population is now being killed by what they created, technology. So although tech may have saved them for the time being, in the end, it was the one to kill them. click here

Fritz Pfeffer
I cannot stand this any longer, living like this for any longer will make me mental. Sleeping in the same room as Anne is probably the lowest point in my life. I think I would much rather sleep on the floor in the main room than put up with her moving and wrestling all night long! It keeps me up all night long which makes me even crazier in the mornings. At least I am able to have the room most of the day without Anne. I like to take short naps whenever I can to prepare me for restless nights. Last night was the worst of all though, Anne woke up in the middle of the night screaming and crying from a bad dream, it is ridiculous and something needs to change immediately before she kills us all! I tried talking to Mrs. Frank about this but she never listens to me. Hopefully tomorrow night she doesnt have another bad dream or her nightmare will become all of our´s reality!

Companies try to defend the use of animal testing by saying that the animals do not feel pain which is simply not true. There are many companies that do not care to follow rules that protect animals that result in pain and danger. This is evil and not right. In another article, ¨Animal Research: is it a Necessary Evil?¨ says, ¨Statistics suggest that almost four million scientific procedures were carried out on animals in 2016 alone.¨Almost four million animals that were tested on in just one year. So many animals had been wasted and did not serve good for others. With insane amounts of animals being tested and mistreated it is not ethical. Click here

After dinner, Sophia decided to take a walk around the back looking at all the stars like shimmering golden lights that normally would not be visible from the busy city skies. Staring down at the ocean, small waves slammed into the side of the boat. She saw a large shadow move but quickly vanished. She convinced herself it was nothing and that of course there would be sea life. Click here

Propaganda Essay

The first example of propaganda in history is when Nazis used propaganda to create false ideas about Jews. Evidence that supports this is from the article ¨Twisted Tongues¨ it says, “Nazis became experts at using propaganda. They convinced the German people to believe what Hitler wanted them to believe”. The Nazis did this by using posters, newspapers, and books. Adolf Hitler made sure that the Germans only saw what he wanted them to see to brainwash them into thinking that the Jewish people were responsible for all their problems. Click here
