Although it might seem archaic today, why fix something when it is not broken? If we didn't have the Electoral College, presidential candidates would focus heavily on gaining the popular vote and spend most of their time in big cities like New York, Chicago, Miami, and Los Angeles instead of having to campaign in places like Alaska, Delaware, and Wyoming to compete for their electoral votes as well. The College enhances the relative political power and electoral parity of minority groups and special interests.
