Nobody should ever holler at my brother. I exploded. “You don’t yell at him!” I shouted. Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door”(62).  Second, when Ponyboy and Johnny went into the burning building, Ponyboy was motivated to get the children out of the fire.  The reason he wanted to get them out of the fire was to save the children’s lives.  Another motivation that Ponyboy has in the story is when he stands up for himself outside of the grocery store.  We know he was motivated for his own safety because it said, “He breaks off the end of his bottle and says, "You get back into your car or you'll get split," scaring the Socs off”(145). Therefor, he has many motivations in his life.

I got put up a year in grade school”(23).  A second strength that Pony is an athletic runner.  The reason we know that was because he quoted, “Oh, yeah, I forgot---I’m on the A-squad track team, the youngest one. I’m a good runner”(91).  A third strength is that he is very courageous. He shows that because he helps get all the kids out of the burning church. All those are reasons of the strengths Ponyboy has.

I'm dreaming, I thought in panic, I'm dreaming. I'll wake up at home or in the church and everything'll be like it used to be. But I didn't believe myself”(86-87).  A second weakness is that he is naive. The reason why he is naive is because he thinks that Darry doesn’t care about him because he is hard on him, but he does care about him.  Darry is just trying his best to raise Ponyboy considering they don't have parents.  A final weakness is how he doesn’t like the way looks because at the beginning of the story it had said, “I had only one thing on my mind: Paul Newman and a ride home. I was wishing I looked like Paul Newman-he looks tough and I don’t-but I guess my own looks aren't so bad”(3). Those are all if the flaws Ponyboy has.

One part of the personality test that stood out to us was, “ INFJs have a fluid, inspirational writing style that appeals to the inner idealist in their audience.  INFJs can even be astonishingly good orators, speaking with warmth and passion, if they are proud of what they are speaking for.”  That reminded us of when his teacher asked him to write a theme about anything near the end of the book, and that it must mean he has a good writing style.  Another part that stood out to us was “As trust grows, INFJs will share more of what lies beneath the surface, and if those ideas and motives are mutual, it’s the sort of friendship that will transcend time and distance, lasting a lifetime.” That reminded us of when Pony says, “Johnny and I understand each other without saying anything”(39).  The reason why it reminded us of that quote was because it means that they are really good friends and they will last forever.

An example from the book is, “  Pony is a dynamic and round character because at the beginning of the book is is very shy and skittish and throughout the book he becomes more brave and tough because of his brothers and the Socs.  Also, he changes the way he sees the Socs.  At first he sees them as rich kids he never had a chance with but later in the book, he realizes that they are people just like himself.
