When I think about what my future will contain, I see myself becoming a cinematographer, camera operator, producer, or even a script writer.

Why Cinematographer - Being behind the camera is where I feel most creative. I always admired how well films are shot. It became my dream to be a cinematographer and one day be able to produce something as amazing and inspiring. When I was in my last year of secondary I found the BSC (British Society of Cinematographers) this heavily influenced me as I found so much info

Why Camera Operate - Like I said about Cinematographer, being in control of a camera is where I feel most comfortable. If I do not go into the film industry then being in TV which I think has more job opportunities.

Why Script Writer - I love to write down my creative ideas and turn them into stories and sometimes even screenplays.

London Southbank university (located at Elephant and Castle) really impressed me and being my first open day I was blown away. Their facilities where amazing with top end industry equipment and a spacious place to produce work. The work space can be split into two for film/TV and Photography which is useful for those who are on separate courses to use the space at the same time without any interference, it also encourages inter-course projects and build up connects around the department.

Ravensbourne University (located at North Greenwich) Was eye opening. From its unique exterior to the Digital Film Production talk to the facilities really impressed me. Ravensbourne's DFP course offers a range of opportunities to expand my knowledge and improve my current skills plus develop new ones. Ravensbourne also help get their students professional industry experience, like working on film sets for big name films & getting scholarship to Warner Bros.

On 19 Nov I went to Greenwich open day. we had a tour of the various facilities led by a student ambassador who was on the course. What caught my eye the most was the Uni's editing suites. They had open computer areas which you can do your work but they also had suites that are dedicated to editing video, making and editing audio as well as a third room with weird looking tech. Nothing else about the Uni or course really stood out, it all seemed a bit generic.

My 5 choices (in no order) are
___________________________________________________________________
Ravensbourne, Greenwich, South Bank and Goldsmiths

I applied for two course at Ravensbourne; Digital Film and Digital TV. The reason went for two courses here was because I didn't like what any other university was offering. As for why I chose these two specifically, Both involved being behind the camera which is where I want to be and I also like how open-planned the building is and how connectivity with the different courses can happen so easily. I also spoke to my cousin who recently graduated from Ravensbourne.

At Greenwich I applied for Media Film Studies (I think) Mainly because of what the course offered. Not much else to go on, this is one of my weaker choices.

GoldSmiths - Media and Communication course looked on the surface to be the best course suited to me. After hearing about how I could go into different specialties within 2 years. Hearing the course was 50/50 Theory / Practical it didn't bother me.

Southbank - I chose Film Practice because I knew a few people who goes there, one doing the very course I want to apply and it was this that influenced me.

At the London Southbank interview, I sat through two presentation; one about important info to the course and Uni (partnerships) the second was a small talk and example exercise. Then there was a writing task which would later be looked at in our one-to-one interview with a lecturer. After the written task, I went up into the department's Cinema screening room and watched a few student projects. Next was a tour of the facilities. I was very impressed with what the Uni had to offer. During my one-to-one, my interviewer was a nice guy and even suggested a film for me to watch.

I then went on a tour of the TV studio and control rooms. I was mesmerised by all the equipment and the quality of Students work. During the end presentation, I learned about the connections and opportunities that the course had. Example, the students run the live broadcasting of the Royal Shakespeare Company's (RSC) on Freeview to the nation and then internationally to America and Asia. This along with how the course is structured, Sold me.

Earlier, I received an offer for the Digital TV course. They want a PASS overall and English and Maths at Grade C (4)
I got an offer to attend an applicant day at Ravensbourne for their TV course. There was a few quick presentation introducing the School of Media Dean and Student council. We went off with our course leaders and for TV we got to be in control of a production written by the head for this event. Applicants got to be in either the studio or in the control rooms where we was directed and over-looked by current students. First run through I just observed the actions. Then I went down to the studio and was placed on Camera 2. Being behind a studio camera felt amazing. I also had a student telling about how it works and I asked a few questions before production began. It was easy to control and switch shots using the zoom. Overall, the day went superb and really influenced me.

My firm choice is Ravensbourne Digital TV Production. With all I've seen from the course, it is the one that best fits my current goals. Although I'll be going into the TV industry, I get to work in a new environment and eventually bring what I learned to the film industry. The course layout suits me well and the specialising by the second year means i can get into camera operations. The Uni's location is very close to here I live so travelling to and from won't be too hard.

My insurance choice is London Southbank University Film Practice. I prefer the way this course is layout compared to Ravensbourne's layout. Here I can choose from three different pathways and during each I can go to workshops that relate to my own pathway and the other ones too. This course really interested me and seeing what some students have produced, it has really opened my eyes and inspired me to achieve higher, I feel i can do so here. Also I will being going into the industry I am most inspired by.

I saw some of their private editing suites which uses the power of Mac Pros and work on three screens, Two monitors and a Mac in the middle. There video editing software is Avid which is more complicated than what i currently use Adobe Premiere Pro but it looked like more fun to use. Next I went into the Radio Broadcasting room which resembled a very real radio environment. Their studio was set out a bit weird, but very spacious. Overall, Goldsmiths impressed me by far.
