It wasn't so much a moment, but a marathon: For 13 years, no one could beat Russia's Alexsander Karelin , and for six consecutive years, he did not allow a point. Winning gold medals in 1988, 1992 and 1996 and settling for a silver medal at the 2000 Olympics. This is my favorite olympic moment because, he was my entire families favorite olympic wrestler until he quit. (even though he was Russian)

The people involved in the moment were Michael White, Dudley Stokes, Chris Stokes and Devon Harris. This was my favorite Olympic moment because it was the first time they came to the winter Olympics and it was a really big deal at the time.

No one expected the 1980 USA men's olympic hockey team to win much of anything. They did believe the team, made entirely of amateur and collegiate players, would go out there and play their hearts out. That grit and commitment led the U.S. team to beat the Soviet powerhouse in a stunning 3 to 4 semi final win. The team would go on to beat Finland and win gold.
This is one of my favorite moments because the USA olympic hockey team wasn't doing good and turn around and won gold, this was an amazing moment for a lot of people

The first one was the 400m race, where he came in with a time of 43.49 seconds. Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing are a few of the player that had gotten recruited. This was the first time that this had ever happened.

In 1936, during the Berlin Olympics, Jesse Owens wasn't supposed to win. Mainly because of his color. Hitler's Germany saw him as a lesser compared to the other because of the color of his skin. He later went on to win 4 gold medals in 100m, 200m, long jump and 4x100 relay. It shows that anyone one can do anything and it just kinda cool seeing that everyone doubted him but he still prevailed.

The day of the race came and Derek's dad was their to support him. The race starts and Derek was about a quarter done then suddenly he heard a pop in his right hamstring like he had just been shot. He started hopping of one foot and then fell to the ground. Derek's dad ran out to the track and Derek and his dad finished the 400 together.

In Paris in 1900 it was the first olympic year when women could compete in the Olympics. This is my favorite moment because women got to compete in the Olympics for the first time. It was also believed that a women named Charlotte Cooper was the first women ever to win a gold metal.

Mary Lou Retton was the first ever gymnast to win a gold medal in gymnastics for the United States. She won this medal on August 3,1984 at the summer olympics held in Los Angeles. Even though she was only 16 and she still managed to get gold. When she won her coach, teammates and the fans were all cheering her on. This is my favorite moment because it was the first time that the United States won gold in gymnastics and the gymnast who won it was so young so it shows that no matter how old you are, you can still do things that you love to do.

In the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Abebe Bikila a Ethiopian runner ran the marathon bare-foot. Almost seeming Impossible and won, while setting a record time of 2:15:16.2. He actually was gonna were shoes being Adidas the sponsor of that years Olympics, they had shoes for him but he didn't wear them because they did not fit. This is my favorite moment because if you put your self in his shoes... well you cant cause he didn't wear any but just imagine running a marathon without shoes with cement and dusty dirt.

Greg Louganis was attemtping
a 3 1/2 summersault at the Seoul olympics in 1988. As he jumped off he hit his head on the diving board which gave him 5 stitches and a concussion. But the best part about it is that the next next day he came back and won gold. This is my favorite olympic moment because looking back it makes me laugh to think that someone who makes it to the olympics should be able to do their event succesfully.

In 1936, during the Berlin Olympics, Jesse Owens wasn't supposed to win. Well that was what Hitler's Germany and many more thought because of the color of his skin. He later on went to earn 4 gold medals in the 100m, 200m, Long jump and 4x100 relay. I just think that it's pretty awesome that he just went out and showed he could do it and it's just really cool to me.

In 1976, Montreal, when the Olympics did not have an age limit. A girl named Nadia ,was 14 when she got 7 perfect scores. She got a perfect 10 on the uneven bars but the score board could not show it, so it showed up as a 1.00. At the end her team got silver but Nadia made a world record for the youngest gymnastic to get perfect score's.Then in 1976 the Olympics past a rule that you have to be 16 or older to compete but they kept her score in the book. So her record will never be broken. Even though was not there, I thought this was awesome that a 14 year old could do that. She inspired every girl that you could do anything if you just think about it and practice.
