Since my parents' divorce when I was two-years-old, I lived alone with my father and a variety of pets. Meals were usually not shared and eaten sporadically in different parts of the house (mostly a sandwich in front of the family room television). I grew very desensitized to certain jokes and subjects that would appall and offend many others. Given that my father was the sole provider of the household with his less-than lucrative blue collar job, it was clear that he would not be able to pay my way through early adult life and university when the time came. My father stressed to me the value of work ethic, determination, and goal-setting as a basis of my growth and progress.
