My name is Nathaniel Moreno, and this wall provides virtual options for communicating online with a small group! The purpose of this wall is to create a simple way for Waking Up Inc. to meet virtually and reduce the number of face-to-face meetings that appear to overwhelm the team every week. By using the five steps of reflective thinking, I was able to find two online media resources that people use to “meet” in groups and communicate.

Facebook

Skype

1. Identify and define the problem

Considering Waking Up Inc. is not a large company, I decided to use a social media resource to set up a small group meeting that is both a professional and comfortable for the team. Hence the reason for choosing Facebook & Skype. The Pareto chart below presents statistics of those who commute to work, people who have social media and finally who has access to a computer/mobile device at Waking Up Inc. The chart shows that the majority could access both Facebook and Skype and that there is a consensus of staff members who would like to take advantage of these resources; this possibility of accessibility and agreeance among employees increases the potential for effective communication while minimizing face-to-face interactions.

2. Analyze the problem

When looking for ways to solve the problem, I used the Fishbone diagram. In this diagram, it has a large arrow pointing to minimizing face-to-face meetings. The lines of the large arrow represent the main categories of potential solutions. The categories include the availability of staff members who have access to both social media platforms on their computers and mobile devices. The answers to the problem are Facebook and Skype, using them both as meeting places for Waking Up Inc will lead to minimizing face-to-face interactions.

3. Generate solutions to the problem

Analyzing the problem gives us a couple of options for reducing the number of face-to-face meetings. The first option is to create a Facebook page dedicated to the company so that employees can come together and share ideas. Setting up a private group would be useful for the Waking Up Inc. because only those who are invited to join the page would be able to see any posts. Staff can send messages and share ideas for projects after work or on weekends, which allows the company to be more productive and efficient with technology. Another option is to use Skype for meetings instead of meeting in person; this will reduce travel time to and from conferences but allow the team to meet face-to-face in an online setting.

The action chart below shows how easy creating a virtual meeting place will be within a week. If everything goes according to plan, then Facebook and Skype will help Waking Up Inc. and allow staff members to feel less bogged down from weekly meetings.
