I think it's great that Judaism sets a precendent for adoption & extended family inclusivity. There are even "mixed" families that are accepted, e.g., Moses & Zipphorah. There are numerous examples of these situations cited in the Tanakh.

Rituals surrounding the celebration of the birth of a child and coming of age speak to the importance Judaism places on keeping time and marking events in our lives so we do not operate on auto-pilot and forget to be in awe. These rituals forge a community that is bound together with commonalities. No matter where or when we live, we share these practices with one another.

As someone raising a Jewish son, I find the rituals help make each stage of life more meaningful and connect to something bigger, family community and tradition. It’s a powerful way to give my son a strong sense of identity and belonging from early on.
