How is literature like a time machine? Think about texts you have read that are set in the past. How did those authors transport you back in time?

Literature is like a time machine because writing can be about anything and take place anywhere in time, like the past or the future. It could inform you on things that have happened in the past, or about the author's ideas of the future. Texts that I have read transported me to the past by giving dates, describing settings and action (because the old inventions and way of life are very different than the modern way), and having the dialogue be fitting for the time period. For example, the author might tell the reader that the horses were pulling buggies down the cobblestone road. This would make the reader think of the past, because there are cars nowadays instead of horses and buggies.
