As I started to read this book, I found myself going online to research its context. Ended up learning more about the history behind The Indian Relocation Act of 1956 and its impact on Native People.

As a family, we took the same trip Pacy took to Taiwan, experienced the same sites and feelings. Three out of the four of us are ABCs (American Born Chinese) and we struggled a bit while we were there. But the book reminded us, "...just because you don't know the language doesn't mean you are not Taiwanese."

Interesting to read Takei's memory of his childhood in the camps, and how he came to understand more fully how they affected various generations in his community. Again, I ended up doing more online research as a result.

A girl who has dyslexia, improves her skills and confidence by her teacher’s support. The story reminds me of “Thank you, Mr. Falker” by Patricia Polacco, just different characters and settings. Such a sweet book!

Enjoyed this book. My daughter read it in preparation for an upcoming school trip to San Francisco. It was interesting to see how families supported with children on the spectrum back in the 1930s.
