Our KS1 children have loved the story Queen Victoria’s Underpants and used it as inspiration to design their own royal pants! They wrote persuasive letters to Queen Victoria, encouraging her to choose their creations. The writing was imaginative, confident, and full of charm—well done, everyone!

PE days for Year 1 & Year 2 are on Mondays and Wednesdays 

Something very precious has landed in our KS2 building this week - something prehistoric and exciting! Year 3 and 4 will be able to see and learn about some precious Stone Age spear and axe heads which are in a special box loaned to us by Guildford Museum. As well as the children seeing first-hand artefacts which are thousands of years old, it will naturally spark questions and curiosity, which is a key skill of being a historian. The children will be deducing information from just an object to help paint a picture of what life would have been like when we have no written evidence. Stay curious Year 3 and 4!

Families First Guildford November Newsletter, useful information for parents and carers

The Music and Media Department at the University of Surrey are holding a free orchestral concert, Beyond Words, on Saturday 15 November 3-5:30pm at Guildford United Reformed Church, GU2 4BS thanks to a collaboration with Surrey Arts. The afternoon will feature some much-loved film and popular music arrangements, including Jurassic Park, James Bond and ABBA. Reception were full of excitement to be back after the half term break! The children walked into a completely transformed classroom, featuring an expanded home corner, a new puppet area and fresh mark making tables. They wasted no time exploring every corner of the updated space and clearly enjoyed being back together again

PE day for Reception Class is on Mondays 

At this week’s celebration assembly, Sandfield School proudly received the prestigious Heritage Schools Award, a national recognition for schools that inspire children to explore and take pride in the heritage of their local area, while connecting it to regional, national, and global history.

The award was presented by Haidee Thomas, Museum Engagement Officer for Surrey, in recognition of our school’s outstanding commitment to enriching pupils’ understanding of the past. Leading this initiative was Mrs Grant, our geography and history lead, who applied for the award on behalf of Sandfield.

The feedback from the judging panel praised Mrs Grant’s efforts, noting that she had “worked hard to compile evidence which showcased the incredible curriculum offered at Sandfield, which deepens every child’s cultural capital.”

As part of this enriching journey, our Year 5 and 6 pupils recently visited Guildford Gallery to enjoy a wonderful exhibition. It was a fantastic experience that contributed to developing our children’s cultural capital. Exploring local heritage sites right on our doorstep has been a focus for us this year which also helps keeps the cost of trips down too.

Earlier in the year, Key Stage 1 pupils explored the local area and created beautiful paintings of Guildford Castle, deepening their connection to our town’s rich history.

We feel incredibly fortunate to be based in such a beautiful and vibrant city, where history and heritage are all around us.

We have been  combining Black History Month with our computing curriculum in a creative and meaningful way. Children have been learning about influential black individuals from history and have created animated characters inspired by their stories and achievements.  It’s been a fantastic opportunity to celebrate heritage, creativity, and technology all at once!
