According to "Plague", Black death came from mainly rodents and their fleas. "Via those fleas it can sometimes leap to humans. When it does, the outcome can be horrific, making plague outbreaks the most notorious disease episodes in history." ("Plague"). When the rodents got on ships with people it would make them sick and they would get off and infect other people.

According to "History","To stop the pandemic was born the plague doctor, who were doctors specializing in care for those infected by this disease. These doctors were hired by the villages, and they took care of citizens of all social classes, rich and poor." When there were not enough doctors to take care of all the infected they hired other skilled people to work. They used leaches and other animals to try to get rid of the infection and it didn't work. Most of them ended up dying ("History").

According to "Cures for the Black Death", there were a lot of cures for it but sometimes they didn't work. A few of the cures are as following: vinegar and water treatment, bleeding, diet, and sanitation. For the vinegar and water treatment they should be put to bed and be washed with vinegar and rose water. In the bleeding treatment you have to cut open the veins leading to the heart and apply an ointment made of violets and clay where the cuts have been made ("Cures for the Black Death"). The Diet one is where you should not be eating bad smelling foods like meat, cheese, and fish. Instead eat vegetables and fruit so it doesn't smell bad. Lastly for sanitation they clean up the streets of any animal or human waste and bodies are buried in deep pits outside the village as well as burning their clothes.

According to "How to Avoid the Plague", there are steps that can be done to avoid getting Plague but it is very difficult. Some of these steps include the following: Vigilantly clean every last corner of your villa, killing all rats and burning their corpses. Use plenty of mint or pennyroyal to discourage fleas. Allow no cats or dogs to come near you. Once away from all human contact, wash in extremely hot water, change into your clean clothes, and burn the clothes you traveled in. Bathe in hot water as frequently as you can. Keep a fire burning in your villa to ward off the bacillus, and stay as close to it as you can stand, even in summer, and stay where you are until six months after the most recent nearby outbreak. ("How to Avoid the Plague").

Before the Plague 10% of people lived past the age of 70, after the plague 20% lived to be older than 70. "It is definitely a signal of something very important happening with survivorship," DeWitte told Live Science. ("Black Death Survivors and Their Descendants Went On to Live Longer"). They studied the bones of the people who died before and after the plague and noticed that people lived older after the plague.
