Demon Slayer "became the highest grossing film in Japanese cinema. It made 10 billion yen ($95.3m) in 10 days. It beat the previous record of Spirited Away which took 25 days". "Kimetsu no Yaiba means Blade of Demon destruction. The movie follows teenage Tanjiro, who strives to become a demon slayer after his family was slaughtered and his younger sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon. The movie was released in October of 2020."

The Boy and the Heron

The Boy and the Heron is an "animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. It references Genzaburo Yoshino's 1937 novel of the same name but not an adaptation of it. It was the most expensive film ever produced in Japan. The movie follows a boy who moves to the countryside after his mother's death. They discovers an abandoned tower that leads to a fantastical world with a talking grey heron".

Suzume is a "2022 Japanese animated, coming of age fantasy adventure film. Suzume was written and directed by Makoto Shinkai. The movie Suzume is about a 17 year old girl and a young stranger that team up to prevent a series of disasters across Japan. The two stop the destruction by sealing doors from the colossal, supernatural worm that causes earthquakes after being released".

There was an explosive increase in video viewing due to the need for isolation and the need for entertainment". Quarantine could last for weeks, or months depending on how severe the infected were.
