After all of the boat companies turned Rifka down because of her ringworm the family went to the HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) and met with a lady that told them that they could go to America but Rifka would be sent to Antwerp, Belgium because that is where the treatment is. Rifka's family went to America without her the same day she left for Antwerp. She was being treated by a nun who refused payment and told Rifka to say a prayer so she wouldn't itch her head. After a few weeks all of her hair was gone. She was treated very kindly and had a nice room that she liked very much. Rifka received letters from her family including money so she can pay for treatment. Rifka did not want to go outside even though it was very nice and there were other kids just because she was afraid of being made fun of.
