They've seen evolution over a period of time, which represents gradual evolution</li><li>The type of evolution that occurred within these organisms is divergent evolution. Pinnipeds have evolved over time from a common ancestor which were land animals. These ancestors are described similar to bears and that they gradually adapted to living in water.</li><li>Nonrandom Mating -&nbsp; Nonrandom mating occurs within pinnipeds because they look for specific characteristics when mating. Usually, the organisms will reproduce with one other specific organism.</li><li>Immigration &amp; Emigration</li></ol><div>- Some believe to migrate from France<br>- Originated in cool, northern climates</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>There are three types of pinnipeds including Otariidae (eared seals), Phocidae (earless seals), and Odobenidae (walruses).<br><br>Otariidae:<br>- Recognizable by their flippers and ears<br>- Unlike earless seals, they have external ear flaps<br>Phocidae:<br>- Sometimes referred to as "true seals"<br>- Have ear holes, no external ear flaps<br>- Have front flippers to navigate on land, along with their stomachs<br>- Move rear flippers back and forth like a fish to navigate in water<br>Odobenidae:&nbsp;<br>- Have tusks and vacuum-like mouths for eating shellfish on the ocean floor<br>- Air sacs in their neck to allow floatation<br>- Largest pinnipeds<br><br><br>External:<br>- Pinnipeds have 4 webbed flippers for swimming, navigating on land<br>- Spindle-shaped bodies<br>- Large eyes, developed whiskers for filtering certain water<br>- All pinnipeds have fur which occasionally sheds<br>- Insulated by blubber<br><br>Internal:<br>- Since pinnipeds are carnivores, they have modified molars for consuming prey whole<br>- Their sensory organs work in and out of water<br><br>Behavior:<br>- Carnivorous &amp; predatory<br>- Subject to predation by examples such as killer whales<br><br>Habitat:<br>- Present in habitats ranging anywhere from ice to tropics, or coastal to open waters</div>]]></description>
