The Browns decide to let the marmalade-eating bear into their home after giving the bear, whom they name Paddington.

The story shows how Paddington Bear from "Darkest Peru" ends up living with the Brown family at 32 Windsor Gardens in London, how he befriends the antiques dealer Mr. Gruber, and how he befriends the Browns' next-door neighbor Mr. Curry. Paddington is very friendly, highly courteous, and has a strong understanding of right and wrong, even if he is capable of making people feel awkward when he believes they are being impolite or condescending toward him. However, he also exhibits a youthful curiosity and is fairly naive; living among humans in England it is exciting to him, but he had some difficulties in adjusting.

Author and illustrator: A. A. Milne and E. H. Shepard
Publisher: Methuen (London) Dutton (US)
Year of publication: 1926
SUMMARY AND ANNOTATION: The honey-loving, silly old bear Winnie the Pooh tries to climb a bee tree to gather honey, but when that doesn't work, he borrows Christopher Robin's balloon, dunks it in mud, and flies up the honey tree while appearing to be a small black rain cloud. After escaping the furious bees, Pooh decides to collect some honey the old-fashioned way: from Rabbit. After cramming his face with all of Rabbit's honey, Pooh tries to climb out Rabbit's front door but gets trapped! No matter how hard they try, they can't get Pooh out, so they wait for him to lose weight before they can. Gopher shows up and offers to help get Pooh, and almost feed him more honey! Then, after being released from the doorway one morning, Pooh finds himself again in a sticky situation.

In this book, children learn about love, forgiveness, patience, trust, and acceptance from the Winnie the Pooh story. Even if they covertly have undetected mental health difficulties, they normalize them and dispel the stigmas that the culture of today has placed on them.
