What I saw at first were these very "poster child" like American families that were in fact either Asian or of Asian descent. In seeing this it got the gears going in my head about this is what the country and its society wanted and what they need up getting, yet they were forced out and away from homes and business's. As I kept going through the slideshow I kept seeing people being treated like animals and as if they were disposable.

Many of the pictures had abandoned shops and businesses, or pictured different farms or horticultural/agricultural centers. What happened to these places? Did the loss of the Japanese agricultural workforce affect food pricing? Who bought up the old stores that Japanese people were forced to abandon? What happened to their crops, their plants, their businesses and homes? Many were even forced to leave before their affairs were settled; did this land them in debt to landlords, did it create legal barriers for their property to be bought up, and/or did this affect their credit or financial records?

The conditions of the internment camps were terrible. The places people were forced to live in were literal animal pens, schoolchildren are pictured learning on dirt floors, and the family barracks were stated to have "8,000 persons of Japanese ancestry assembled". There are several people pictured who are reported to have died in the internment camps, including Mrs. Shibuya and Mrs. Takeuchi Kiwa. However, the video filmed by the US Government as a historical record makes no note of these deaths or the terrible conditions. Instead, peppy music plays in the background as the narrator praises American soldiers for setting up camp "overnight" (ignoring the fact that the camp was not made for livable, acceptable human conditions; there are simply animal pens with cots inside). Did the American public have any idea of how bad things were, or was the film we watched in class the extent of their knowledge?

World War 2 ended in 1945, but Japanese internment camps carried into mid-1946. Why did they continue for so long after the war?

I wonder what the process and criteria for getting photos like the ones Lange took to be approved by the WRA was. Only one of her photos in the entire slideshow was flagged...for what reason? Why was that photo different from the others? How did we come into possession of that particular photo if it was never meant to be published? Were Lange (and other photographers) instructed to portray their work through a specific lense? I also wonder about the people that were placed into these camps. Did they know that the government was creating propaganda against them? Did they ever think that decades later, people would be actively learning about what they were forced to go through?
