Savannah also served as the colonial capital of Georgia from 1777-1784. Savannah was Gerogia's first established city. 

In 1779, during the American Revolution, France had held seige to Savannah. Though this wasn't the only hardship Savannah had to go through. It was named after the mother of King George the third, Princess Augusta of Saxe Goths.

It served as the state capital of Georgia from 1785-1795. Many people thought that the capital should stay here, because in that time the population was thriving and moving west, though it didn't. During the American Revolution Augusta was the sight of bitter fighting and it changed sides many times.

Grants were up to 200 to 1,000 acres of land. It was when state legislatures accepted bribes from 4 private land companies to enact a law that allowed the state of land from the state's western bourndaries sell at prices far below market value.

After the Yazoo Act was passed, the people of Georgia were outraged and voted most legislatures out of office. Thankfully, the Yazoo Land Act was ended in 1796.

All records of the bill were taken out and publicly burned. It was when the government sold 500,000 dollars worth of western land to 4 different compaines. The 4 companies had bribed the Gerogia General Assembly, which the government didn't know about.

Though when the government did find out, the legislative still went on with the sale.

One of the senators even resigned to fight to stop the signing of the Yazoo Land Act.

In 1815, Milledgeville became increasingly properous and more respectful and the surrounding countryside became caught up in the middle of a cotton boom.

It was the third approach of distributing land in Georiga.

White men could get 1 ticket per year if you're married, and if you had a child you could get 2. You could get 200-500 acres of land. Registration fee was $4 per 100 acres.

The settlers wanted the Cherokee to leave so they were able to get more land, and they made a deal. 

Though the settlers got impatient and they pushed the Native Americans out of their home lands, and started the Trail of Tears.
