The tone of the poem is like gullible and easily tricked into thinking that chimney sweeping was a fun job. It also uses a tone that shows pity on children that are still going though chimney sweeping.

The first chimney sweep poem uses an angry and critical tone, as the child's own parents neglect and exploit them, yet justify their guilt by praying at the church. The second chimney sweep poem uses a more playful and innocent tone to show the spiritual hope that the children have.

The first one is somewhat solemn, more tragic. While the sepnd is in a more childlike mood, making the reader feel pity. The second one starts out a bit like the first and slowly become more innocent sounding. The different voices in the poem add more meaning and feeling to the poems and invoke deeper emotions to the reader(James)

The first poem uses a somber and bleak tone. Using the line "they clothed me in the clothes of death" shows how there is no hope for the child chimney sweep and the job is sort of like a slow execution. The second one has a very gullible tone as Tom has been given a false sense of hope by the angel in his dream. He was told he would be very happy if he did what he was told but in reality no matter what he would live a horrible life. (Aiden)

The first poem has a rather angry, accusatory tone towards the church and monarchy neglecting the children's suffering. This makes the reader feel some pity towards the children. While the second poem has a rather innocent tone where the children are manipulated into following some false hope.

Blake’s two Chimney Sweeper poems feel very different. The first is harsh and angry, blaming adults, the Church and society for exploiting children. It leaves the reader feeling sad and or even angry at the injustice. The second poem sounds softer and more childlike. Tom’s dream of an Angel gives the children hope, but it feels false, like they’re being tricked into accepting their suffering. The cheerful tone makes it even more disturbing because it seems as if the children don’t see the reality. (emma)

Poem 1: The first poem is centered around the author's anger (anger towards parents, society etc.). This makes the readers feel sadness and pity on behalf of these chimney sweepers.

Poem 2: The second poem uses a more soft and warm approach to this dark subject. The tone starts sad, dark, makes the reader feel for the chimney sweepers, then transitions to a hopeful (though false) ending.

The first poem has an angrier tone. It talks more about how society views the children chimney sweeps and the anger of the author. His anger about how society treats the children, how their parents treat them and how their supervisors treat them. Such as how the children's childhoods are taken away and how miserable the children are with no freedom, education or time to play.

The second poem has a warmer soft tone in the perspective of a child. It focuses more on how the children have hopes and dreams of being free. How they may think death and being in heaven may be better than being trapped working as chimney sweeps. The innocent tone with the slightly dark idea and thoughts of the children make the reader think more about what the author is saying and makes this poem slightly more disturbing than the previous one.
