This is conventional, as many metal magazines feature both young and old artists. Young artists typically attract a young audience, which is my target. An uncoventional aspect of model is that she is female. Usually, rock magazines feature male artists, like Kerrang! have done here, as metal/rock is a male-dominated genre. In my research however, I found that the majority of young people surveyed said that they didn't mind which gender was featured on the front cover (though some said they would prefer a male). By following a typical layout convention I may be able to attract more customers, as they may recognse the layout from other magazines. This layout is also simple and allows the reader to see everything clearly. The colour scheme I used in my product mainly consists of black, red, blue and grey, which are common colours found in metal magazines and other products associated with that genre (although here Kerrang! have subverted this convention). The font of the masthead, main sell-line and cover-lines employs a distorted/destroyed aesthetic, which conforms to genre conventions nd appeals to my target audience. The dominant image is shot at eye-level and is a mid-shot, which ensures that the audience can se the model clearly and the band shirt she is wearing, thus making them more likely to be attracted to the product. The colours are dark and the text is distorted and is coloured either red or black. These colours were used because they connote anger and death, which are common themes in metal music. The mise-en-scene of the dominant image is quite gritty and the image is black and white to achieve a dark, gritty effect. The layout of my contents page is also similar to the layout of Kerrang!'s. Kerrang!'s page, on the other hand, has more information and images on it, and also an editor's note. My page, however, has a darker colour scheme, which is more suitable for my music genre. The colour black connotes death, evil, rebellion and mystery, which are common themes in metal music. The use of this colour gives the page a dark feel and makes the model easier to see.
