We wacthed 2 documentaries regarding immigratiion in America, and it is important to help with understading the "Melting Pot" culture that exists in parts of America.

In the virtual tour of Ellis Island, we got educated on the functions and history of Ellis Island. We also heard stories about some of the earliest immigrants that came to the the United States.

In Future we saw the history of the Mexican and Asian (mainly chinese) immigrants in America. The Americans stole Texas from the Mexicans, and then proceeded to evict the Mexican from their newly conquered teritory. In regard to the Asians they imported alot of workers to help build the railroad, but when the railroad were built they started to persecute them, much in the same way as they did with the African American population post emancipation.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
The Pledge of Allegiance is a dedication to the United States, where you show that you're a part of the nation and that you stand for justice and liberty. It's also something the kids are taught in school. It's a small text/quote, they have to say out loud, in school, every morning, before their class starts.
Our theme, "Melting Pot" shows in this pledge, because everybody in the United States is a part of the nation under God, no matter religion and everybody is a part of the civil religion, with liberty and justice.

Gran Torino is about an old man, by the name Walt Kowalski. He misses his wife and in the beginning, he doesn't like the immigrants, even though he himself, is of Polish decent. He hesitantly becomes friends with 2 Hmongs, Thao and Sue and finally accepts the fact, that he after all, lives in an Asian "Ghetto". He does what he can, to help Thao and Sue and ends up getting himself killed for them, so they can finally be free.
Again our theme, "Melting Pot" shows because of the many different nationalities portrayed in the movie. Everybody lives together under the same rights and everybody slowly accepts each others existence in the country.

The article is about a Chinese woman called Amy Chau. She has written a book where she expresses her opinion about the Western’s way of raising their children. She believes that her “traditional Asian parenting style”, which is stricter, is the correct way of raising children. She thinks that if the parents believe in their kids, then their children will succeed with whatever they are doing. Whereas the Western parents give up too easy and don’t push their kids to be the best version of themselves.

Asian Immigrants in the Unite States Today

It is an article
By Sanam Malik, 2015
The article is about Asian Immigrants and their part of the American society. They are becoming a larger part of the U.S population, but are often overlooked, even though they still face the same challenges as any other immigrant. It is a stereotype, that many believe, that they have already achieved "The American Dream", but that is often not the case. They are very much still struggling with poverty and unemployment. It is therefore imperative that politicians, lawmakers, and the general public learn more about the Asian community and do something to help them succeed economically, reunite their families, and integrate them further into American society.

Pentagram - rhetorical pentagon
Writer: Sannam Malik

Receiver: Politicians / American citizens

Topic: Asian immigrants

Language: Colloquial English, there’s mostly logos because we mostly get information/statistic.
