Infection with various picornaviruses may be asymptomatic or may cause clinical syndromes. Typical manifestations include sore or scratchy throat, facial pressure, headache, cough, hoarse ness, and less often, malaise, chills, or feverishness. 

The importance of proper hand hygiene, cough etiquette, and safe food/beverage choices (particularly during travel) cannot be emphasized enough and are the keys to interrupting picornavirus disease transmission.
