ADAB IN SEEKING KNOWLEDGE

After we finished playing the game, we continued learning the first topic which is Adab in seeking knowledge.

What I learned :

I’ve learned that Adab is more than just manners, it’s the soul of every action. It’s how we carry ourselves before Allah, the Prophet SWT, our families, our peers even before a plate of food or a moment of sleep.

From the echoes of the Prophet’s SWT noble character “His character was the Qur’an” to the quiet humility of Imam Malik and the wisdom of Imam Al-Ghazali, I’ve come to understand that seeking knowledge is an act of worship. And in this sacred pursuit, intentions matter, character counts, and consistency in virtue is everything.

I’ve embraced the Seven Golden Etiquettes for Seekers of Knowledge :

Begin with sincerity (niyyah)

Learn with excellence (ihsan)

Trust in Allah (tawakkul)

Purify habits

Always be grateful

Ask through du’a

Remember Allah (dhikr) and seek forgiveness (istighfar)

I’ve learned this topic with a deeper sense of purpose. I am not just a student of books but of life with Adab as my guide.

AL-QURAN AS THE BOOK OF GUIDANCE

I learned that the Al-Qur’an is not just a book but it is the literal word of Allah, sent down through the angel Jibrail to Prophet Muhammad SWT. It’s a manual for humanity, a compass that never fails and a mirror that reflects our purpose.

A Book with No Doubt :

“This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those mindful of Allah.”

(Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:2)

The Qur’an is firm, timeless, and flawless revealed to clear confusion, settle differences, and illuminate the path for believers.

Revelation with Purpose :

The first verses “Iqra!” (Read!) were not just instructions; they were an awakening. The Prophet SWT an unlettered man, was chosen to carry a message for all of humanity. That alone teaches us that guidance is for everyone, regardless of status or knowledge.

What It Contains :

The Qur’an is complete and comprehensive. It teaches us:

Who Allah is

What is halal (permissible) and haram (forbidden)

The purpose of worship

The realities of Paradise and Hell

The stories of prophets before us

Moral and ethical conduct (akhlak)

From Fear to Faith :

When Jibrail appeared to the Prophet SWT, fear shook his heart but faith settled it. Through the verses, Allah nurtured him and now, through the Qur’an, He nurtures us. Every verse is a divine whisper of wisdom, comfort, warning, or mercy.

I’ve learned that Al-Quran is not just to be read but it is to be understood, felt and lived. When we open it, we’re not flipping pages but we’re opening a conversation with Allah. It’s our ultimate guide through the chaos of life, lighting up our hearts and straightening our steps.

The story :

One day, a mysterious man dressed in dazzling white, unknown yet unforgettable, stepped into a gathering and opened a door. Jibril through which the foundations of our faith were unveiled. He asked not just for answers, but for awareness.

What I learned :

Islam became the map, a path paved with the Five Pillars: declaration, prayer, charity, fasting and pilgrimage.

Iman was the compass six beliefs guiding the heart: belief in Allah, angels, books, messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree.

Ihsan was the vision to worship with such depth that even unseen, the presence of Allah feels near.

It was a lesson in humility, a model of student-teacher respect and a reminder that knowledge is a trust, not just information.

Faith is layered : Islam is action, Iman is belief, and Ihsan is excellence.

True learning begins with the right attitude : cleanliness, respect, and intention.

Even the unseen like the Hour teaches us to live in awareness and gratitude.

Wealth and success are tests, not trophies.

This hadith isn’t just history but it’s a holistic blueprint for life. And I’ve not just studied it but I understand it.

I was reminded of the foundational aspects of my faith, especially the importance of belief in Allah, His angels (Malaikat), and His revealed books (Kitab). These components are not just pillars of Iman, but they serve as a guide for how I perceive the world, my purpose, and my relationship with the Creator.

The concept of Belief in Allah was explained through four essential aspects, His existence, lordship (rububiyyah), divinity (uluhiyyah) and names and attributes (asma’ wa sifat). This breakdown made me realize how belief in Allah is not passive, it requires knowledge, reflection, and constant affirmation through action. Understanding that Allah is both Maalik and Malik, having complete sovereignty and control, gave me comfort and strengthened my tawakkul (trust) in Him.

The session on Malaikat (angels) was particularly humbling. Learning about their characteristics, their obedience, their non-human nature, their different forms and duties made me reflect on how many things happen in the unseen, beyond human comprehension. The knowledge that every deed I do is recorded by angels such as Raqib and Atid reminds me to always strive for sincerity and righteousness.

This week I’ve deepened my understanding of three fundamental aspects of Islamic faith: belief in the messengers (Rasul), the Day of Judgment (Qiyamah), and divine decree (Qada’ and Qadar). Each of these pillars plays a crucial role in shaping a Muslim’s worldview, actions, and relationship with Allah SWT.

What I learned :

The difference between a Rasul and a Nabi helped me appreciate the unique role each messenger played in guiding humanity. While every Rasul is a Nabi, not every Nabi is a Rasul, this distinction made me realize how special the responsibility of spreading new revelation is. Reflecting on their mission reminded me of the importance of conveying truth and guiding others, even in the face of hardship.

It means doing everything with goodness and sincerity for Allah and for others.

One part that really touched me is how Ihsan in worship means praying like I can see Allah. And even if I can’t, I remember that He always sees me. That makes me want to be better in my prayers, my actions and my words.

I also learned that Ihsan isn’t just for worship. It’s also about being kind to people, helping others, and doing our best in everything like studying or doing our chores.
ADAB TOWARDS PARENTS

Reflecting on the Week 6 lessons of USRAH 1, I am reminded of the immense importance Islam places on adab not just as an external display of good manners, but as an internal discipline rooted in faith and sincerity. The Prophet Muhammad SWT taught us that good character is central to being a true believer, and this is clearly seen in how Islam guides us to treat our parents, neighbors, and teachers.

The reminder on adab towards parents touched me deeply. In a world where independence is often celebrated, Islam teaches us to honour our parents, especially in their old age, with gentleness, patience, and humility. The verse from Surah al-Isra’ (17:23) warns us not to even say “uff” to them, a command that reflects the sacredness of their rights. Personally, this made me reconsider how I sometimes take my parents for granted. I realize now that simply spending time with them, asking about their well-being, or even sharing good news are all small acts of ihsan that can carry great spiritual reward.

The section on adab towards neighbors reminded me that Islam is not only a private relationship between a person and Allah SWT but also a social responsibility. I was especially struck by the hadith that one is not a true believer if they sleep full while their neighbor is hungry. This made me reflect on how often we live in isolation, ignoring those around us. As a student living in a residential area, I rarely speak to my neighbors but now I feel encouraged to at least greet them with a smile, check in if someone seems unwell, or share food during special occasions. These small actions are simple, yet they build stronger and more compassionate communities.

ADAB AS STUDENT

Lastly, the lesson on adab as a student was particularly powerful. In the pursuit of knowledge, Islam emphasizes humility, sincerity, and service. I was humbled by the story of Ibn ‘Abbas رضي الله عنه serving Zayd ibn Thabit رضي الله عنه, which reflects the deep respect companions had for their scholars. As a student, I realize that learning is not just about acquiring information but about purifying my heart from arrogance and striving for the knowledge of the Hereafter. This means approaching my studies with discipline, sincerity, and a constant intention to benefit others for the sake of Allah SWT.

In conclusion, these teachings are not just moral advice, they are a means to draw closer to Allah SWT. They transform our everyday actions into worship when done with the right intention. Going forward, I want to practice more ihsan in my relationships, especially with my parents and neighbors, and embody humility in my journey as a student. Adab, I’ve come to realize, is not only about how we treat others but also a mirror of our relationship with Allah SWT.

I learned that hikmah can be achieved through three important pillars: niyyah, ‘amal and ihsan. When these three elements are combined, worship can transform a person’s character and help them become more disciplined, sincere, responsible and closer to Allah.

This week, I learned about the wisdom (hikmah) behind fasting (ṣawm). Our naqibah divided the topics among the groups and my group was assigned the topic of fasting. We discussed the meaning, purpose and benefits of fasting based on the Qur'an and the explanations given in class. After preparing our discussion, we presented our findings as a group. Through this activity, I gained a deeper understanding that fasting is not only about abstaining from food and drink, but also about developing self-control, discipline, and taqwa (God-consciousness).

The session helped me understand that prayer is not only about the act itself but also about preparing ourselves physically and spiritually beforehand. Since my group will be doing a role play next week, this lesson was very useful as it helped us understand the practical steps and their significance in daily worship. Through this learning experience, I became more confident in performing tayammum correctly and appreciated the importance of maintaining purity before prayer.

I presented a poster about Sabr (Patience and Forbearance). While preparing for the presentation, I gained a deeper understanding of the true meaning of patience in Islam. I learned that sabr is not limited to facing hardships, but it also includes being consistent in worship and controlling oneself from sinful actions. As a student, I found the practical applications of sabr especially meaningful because they relate to challenges such as academic stress, examinations, and daily responsibilities. From this presentation, I was reminded to put my trust in Allah, stay positive during difficult times and continue striving to become a better Muslim through patience and perseverance.
