What is the issue about after reading all the articles?
  1. What is the issue? When and where does it occur?
  • Many people are aware are the effects of plastic but choose not to take action for convenience sake. This happens in many countries. However, in certain countries, there are laws against the use of plastics or to regulate the use of plastics.  

B. What is the controversy about?
  • The banning of plastics will cause inconvenience
  • Affects livelihood (e.g Dirty environment, the spread of bacteria and diseases)
  • Causes land and water pollution


Analysis
Why did the issue come about?
      c.  What are some of the reasons given for the situation?

  • 9 million tonnes of plastic enter the ocean every year
  • According to environmental organization Planet Ark, Australians use up to 8 billion single-use plastics a year but only 3 percent is recycled.


      d. Why do I think things happened this way?

  • People are not pleased with the fact that they are unable to use plastics throughout their daily lives
  • They find it convenient to use e.g Grocery shopping, plastic bottles
  • People are used to convenience and availability
  • People are fined for selling plastic bags and nobody is happy about it.

So what?
     e. What do I think about the different perspectives in the articles?
  • Some people approve the use of plastic supplies, whereas some people support the fact of not using it at all
  • Prefers easy access rather than taking the trouble of using their own resources

     f.  What made me think this way?
  • The ban on plastic bags in Australia caused an outrage in shoppers as they could no longer receive free bags at counters.
  • Whereas in India, the ban on plastic bags caused some citizens to form plastic eradication squads which have been conducting raids at shops and restaurants. This means that India supports the ban on plastic bags.
