As a child, some of the first books I read were "The Twilight Series," "The Lovely Bones," and "Perks of Being a Wallflower." I loved reading more advanced books than my age because the content and vocabulary intrigued me. This is significant to me because at a young age, I was able to gain a larger vocabulary from reading these types of books, which eventually became useful in my writing as well. I also gained a greater appreciation for reading because I got to enjoy books that I wanted to read.

When I was young, I begged my parents to let me ride an elephant in Thailand and they did in order to make me happy. However, as I got older, I saw a post on social media that informed others on the violent abuse that these elephants endure for the tourism industry. This shaped my life greatly because I no longer had any desire to ride an elephant. I even ended up volunteering at an elephant rehabilitation center, which allowed me to personally see the brutal physical and emotional damage to these elephants. It also educated me on ways to prevent these elephants from becoming extinct as a result of this industry, which I try to make more people aware of today.

I took four years of French in middle and high school. This allowed me to become almost fluent in reading, writing, and comprehending the language. I thought that this was beneficial in my life because it helped me learn more about language in general. For example, French uses many different conjugations, grammatical gender, and sentence structure. This helped me improve my own English and writing because it made me focus more on the mechanics of a language and recognize how sentences can be structured differently no matter what language you are speaking or writing.

Junior year of high school, a new class was added to my schools curriculum called "Global Politics." I joined this class because I enjoy traveling. This class made an impact on me because I used to never read the current news and after being assigned weekly assignments, I began to enjoy reading these articles and improved on my analysis. This made me realize that is is important to be informed with what is currently happening in the world and now I continue to keep up to date with the news.

In high school, I joined the IB program which is for selected students who can potentially gain college credits. My IB English class challenged me a lot, as well as greatly improved my writing and reading skills because of the abundant amount of essays and readings we did. An important moment for me in IB English was when we had to write a 10 page paper called the extended essay. I felt like this helped me become extremely prepared for college because it was the first time I have ever had to write such a long paper and go though several revisions over a two year period before turning it in to the IB.
