         <title>New England</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Separatists (Pilgrims) fled England for the United States and founded Plymouth.<br>Puritans settled in Massachusetts Bay in 1629, and aimed to build a "city upon a hill" as an example for the rest of the New World. Massachusetts was a theocracy with little separation of church and state. There was no religious freedom. People who disagreed with Puritans were banished, such as Thomas Hooker who founded a colony in Connecticut and Roger Williams who wanted separation of church and state and founded Rhode Island (the only colony for a time that allowed complete religious freedom).<br>New England was more tolerant of Natives.</div>]]></description>
