What is the problem and what are the root causes of the problem? toolek https://padlet.com/toolek/sfq5w5yn717m/wish/323947778 In Pakistan, women don’t have a voice, they are treated poorly.  It is frowned upon for girls to attend school. First, women are likely to get raped or sexually harassed.  Most women feel they don’t have a voice and can’t speak out.   When a women does speak out they are not believed.  This then may lead to a honour killing. A honour killing is when a woman is killed because it is believed she brought dishonor upon the family.  Honour killings are known as karo-kari in Pakistan. Pakistan is believed to have the highest record of honour killings per year. When a girls turns five she does not go to school, but rather stay home and clean while her brothers attend school.  This is all caused by a group called the Taliban.  The Taliban a group who want to force Taliban Law on Afghanistan and Pakistan.  They also want to take away all religious rights.

How has the problem affected the community directly? toolek https://padlet.com/toolek/sfq5w5yn717m/wish/324100006 In Pakistan, before the Taliban came, women could walk outside and follow their own religion.  Also, before the Taliban came they could play Now, women and girls are hidden away and can’t leave the house without a male escort.  Also, when girls do walk outside they are expected to cover up their faces.  Women can’t make their own decisions, their fathers choose for them.  Most women don’t get an education, therefore they can’t get a job, so they can’t grow up and support their family.  Mothers and Fathers are disappointed when they give birth to a baby girl.  They are disappointed because they can’t play sports with them or they can’t go to school.  Parents in Pakistan want to have a boy child so they can have pride in them.

Why should the rest of the world be concerned about this issue? toolek https://padlet.com/toolek/sfq5w5yn717m/wish/324104394 The rest of the world should be concerned about this issue because everyone deserves to be treated fairly and equally.  The Taliban and women being treated poorly could spread to other countries such as Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan.  In Pakistan women are taught obedience and men are taught honor.  This repeats every time a child is born, and they are ruining their children.  Girls are disrespected and women stick together and help each other.  Also, if women in the U.S. were treated this way, there would be a stop to it.  Therefore, if we put a stop to it in Pakistan, we can better Islamic life.  Finally, men are married to these women who are getting treated unfairly, so they deserve to have rights hand make decisions in their relationship and have equal rights.

Today has been a terrible day.  Ever since the Taliban had been here, I can’t leave the house without my father or my brother, Abbas.  I did not go to school as usual and I cleaned the house with my mother.  I served my brother and father as usual.  I had to go outside to fetch my brother a glass of water, but I had to cover up my face.  This morning, my mother and I had a conversation about how I am 17 and I have no idea who I am going to marry.  My mother said I should not worry as my father will choose who I shall marry.  If I want to marry someone my father does not like, I can’t marry them.  I hope to follow, Malala.  I am very supportive of her work.  I want to be like Malala and fight for my fights.

What is currently being done to address this problem? toolek https://padlet.com/toolek/sfq5w5yn717m/wish/324753740 Protesters like Malala Yousafzai protest around Europe to try and get the Taliban to treat women more fairly and have equal rights as men.  Malala travels and speaks at events to convince others this problem needs to be solved.  Malala has an influence on others and they start to speak out too.  Girls continue to go to school despite the unwantedness of them to get an education.  Websties and blogs are being made for everyone to see, and to explain why this problem needs to be solved.  Social Media also has hashtags and posts that tell people about women’s rights in Pakistan.  In Pakistan, women are standing up although they could get killed.  The Prime Minister settled the “Protection for Women Against Violence,” program to make sure that women are getting fair rights and are not being raped and harassed.  Even though the products to the social media and the “Protection for Women Against Violence,” program are not showing quickly, something is still being done to solve this problem.
