An eventful trip to Connemara

The other day I went to Connemara to meet up with my friend. I hadn’t seen her in 6 months so I was really looking forward to seeing her. The sun was shining when I left Galway city but by the time I had reached Connemara (about an hour and a half later), there were dark clouds in the sky.

Despite the grey skies, we decided to go for a walk along the beach. It started out nicely but suddenly the heavens opened up and it started pouring rain. It was some of the worst weather I had ever experienced!

We decided to run back to the car to wait for the rain to blow over. But we had walked so far along the beach that by the time we reached the car, we were absolutely soaked by the end of it.

In the end, we had to wait over an hour in the car for the rain to stop. It certainly how I had imagined my trip to Connemara!

A beautiful day in the Andes.

The story that I am going to tell you happened on a trip to the Venezuelan Andes, the day was very clear and sunny, the immense mountains were a delight to our sight, it was perfect to visit a lagoon whose access could be only done on the back of a mule or on horseback.

We were very happy because although we were at an altitude of more than 3000 metres above sea level the temperature was cool, not cold like when it rains and snow is form on the top of the mountains.

The journey by mule or on horseback was about an hour from the place where we left the cars. There was a small restaurant where we stocked up on hot drinks such as hot chocolate and even an alcoholic drink to keep our bodies warm.

We started our journey, sometimes dangerous journey as the horses galloped at times on the edge of the abyss which was a bit scary, but the animals knew exactly what to do on the road.

When we had been riding for 40 minutes, the sky suddenly turned completely black, heralding a storm. None of us expected it to rain that day because the sky was completely blue. In less than a minute a terrible storm fell from the sky, we were in the middle of the Andes on the back of a horse at an altitude of more than 3000 metres, completely soaked and of course very cold because the temperature dropped drastically.

We decided not to continue our trip to the lagoon and to turn back, that is 40 minutes of continuous rain over our heads.

We returned to the refuge from where we had left and when we arrived we were completely drenched, fearing that we might get sick as we had been in the rain for a long time without any protective clothing.

Fortunately no one got sick, it was a wonderful experience even though we couldn't see the lagoon.

Frost on a winter morning

It was a usual winter morning as frosty as always. I was brushing my teeth when I noticed that it had already been unbearably cold outside and at home. I am used to the fact that it is always very cold in Kazakhstan in winter.Sometimes I was glad that I could not go to school, but I went to training anyway.

That day I was really scared, I ate my breakfast and did not understand why the teacher did not call and say that classes were canceled.I had eaten and while I was going to my room to dress for school I checked the weather forecast. But before that, I assumed that there should be something like -30 degrees on the street. When I looked at how many degrees it was outside, I was horrified. It was -40 on the street. I didn't know what to do. I was seized with fear and panic that I simply would not make it to school and would just freeze somewhere.

After my mini panic attack, I breathed a sigh of relief because the teacher called me and said that classes were canceled.
