When I heard the text I felt that this text was going to mean something. I realized that she seemed to have an understanding of real world problems even from a young age. When she said she wanted to be a prophet. The black and white colors struck me because most comics are filled with colors. It kind of seemed like we were viewing that story from an outsider perspective
-Sandra Soto

I also feel that everyone should be comfortable with what they are wearing. My thoughts are she should be proud of what she believes and if she wants to wear the vale then to wear it. She should not care with others will think and wear it proudly. Lastly i feel that since the novel was in black and white she could of felt multiple ways towards what was happening.
-paige munoz

is text really catches my attention epspecially the introduction where it is talking about the history of Iran and how it became know as Iran I also agree with the fact that certain groups of people should not be blamed because of the wonrgdoings of a few extremists. The black and white of the panels are the comic more sembolic to me because it shows the semblance of the story and how the different ideals were kind of black and while. Another thing I find interesting is how the veil shows how they were trying to be forced into islamic religion. My favorite thing or the biggest take out of this chapter is how kids vie the world and how they can be easily.

The movement of thought i had while reading this text is how there are two separate sides to the story the people with having a king or emperor and the people against having them and how i am understanding the two sides. I love how the author uses the the panels and word bubbles to show me how both sides think when it comes to the king.

One this that really stood out in this chapter is the use of Emanata to show the emotions of the Maid like the la la la la la where the made is looking out the window towards the son of the neighbor or when she was crying .

How I felt while listening to the text was curious, I was intrigued, I wanted to understand what the author was speaking about. I felt sad for her thought, because she had felt abandonment and she felt alone by god. I also felt disgusted and frustration towards the “policemen” who let the people inside the building that was on fire die, they committed a massacre in broad daylight. The authorial choices were interesting, they used the sense of abandonment by god within the chapter and it seemed as though she related to it.

The authorial choices support the content of the chapter most when the she wanted to feel what it was like being in a cell of water and states that her hands were wrinkly like her grandfather’s.

This also tied into the authorial choices connect to the text because she states how children are working at such a young age and how her family also hired a young girl who took care of her and was their maid. I also felt bad for their maid and how she couldn’t like or even marry a guy who isn’t in the same social class, and how quickly the boy stopped speaking to her because of it.

When i read this i honestly hurt and upset because the family had to live in poverty and they didnt have anything to eat except bread and the only clothing they got was the clothing that they made on their own. My movement of thought honestly is that i question a lot on why the son was more cruel then the father and why they chose to be more cruel to the little girls grandfather is makes me feel really upset because they let their emotions out on everyone else and hurt others while doing it.
-Andrea Vega

When i first read this i honestly felt upset and hurt because i feel so bad for the kids because they had to work at such a young age and i feel so awful for them because their bodys were getting ruined by working at such a young age and they didnt even get to learn to read or write at all and i felt bad for them because a lot of them just like the little girl were criticized for not being able to read or write at all. My movement of thought was just when i heard that they had to work at such a young age and that the little girl only had to go to work because her family couldnt take care of her and because her family sent her to work i honestly felt disappointed and upset with the family and people because they didnt care that kids were sent to work at such a young age.
-Andrea Vega

I feel that the girl is maturing from a young age because there are people forcing her along with other children into a religion that they don’t even know about. She wants to become a prophet but feels as if she betraying god by wanting to becomea doctor so she’s having a hard time in what she wants to do or be. I think something that goes with this is time because back then there were times people were maybe being forced into certain religions or things and didn’t have any idea why.
-Josefina L

While I was listening to the story I mainly focused on the girl's opinion and struggles as she moves forward in life. As she goes on in time she faces hardships like with the demand of wearing veils, as well as having the desire and relationship with her god to become a prophet. I see how she tries to not allow others opinion shake her foundation on faith in what she wants to believe and the choices she makes in her life. I feel like each panel has something to give for an example, the Juxtaposition community protest panel shows black and white that represents something as having two opinions with the veils. The use of veils started to impact Marianne and her family.
— Alonzo Perez

While I was reading this text, I was intrigued by the fact that a little girl from Iran wanted to be a prophet because most kids don't want to be things like that and I kind of related to her in that way. She used the idea of a prophet to put all the things she wanted to do for the world into one word. I noticed the author used panel, transitions, voiceovers, speech bubbles, and black and white imagery to convey the message and content of the chapter.- Luis Pineda

What I feel when reading chapter nine is sarrow because of the people who die and how marjain had lost some friends since people were leaving. My movement of thought through chapter 9 was wow all of this is happening some time after the shah leaves. I did enjoy the use of Emanata used in this chapter.
When I read through chapter 10 I felt mad at the people who were forcing citizens to wear the veil. My movement of thought was mainly focused on how harsh the community was to the people who didn't wear the vail. One thing in this chapter that stood out was the way Satrapi used narration to convey her thoughts on the topic of discussion in the text.

When I read the text, I can understand the hatred of how the people felt of the president trying to justify his actions by putting on a band-aid of what he has done. I also felt disappointed on how his dispature changed some of his easily swayed followers against him. The thought of following even though they know what was done was a bad thing. I am glad the protagonist is learning that no one is responsible for their parents or other guardian actions. The authorial choices used supported the story because the display of the emotions portrayed showed the celebration of what must been done. The splash of certain photos shows the importance. These choices helped me understand it better. --Melanie Estrada

When I read the text of chapter 7/8, I feel horrid by the fact of what many people went through by showing their beliefs and their rights. I can also understand how satrapi felt overwhelmed by those who were bad. She now saw the difference between justice and forgiveness. My movement of thought reflected on past experiences of things I heard and how they can relate to the reality. The authorial choices supported the text because she used flashbacks and the events and how they related to each other. She showcased of what was. --Melanie Estrada

When I read the text of chapter 9, I felt a sense of love, the sadness of values and beliefs intertwined and heartache. My movement of thought was the ability of grasping of what you are standing for can torment you but, also show physical torture is not always the best torture than mental abuse given. The authorial choices supported the context because they help move the story along with using many sequence of events and the speech bubbles to go with it. In chapter 10, I felt sad and angry throughout the whole chapter. My movement of thought through understanding this text was how many people feared for their lives and there best option was to run and hide from the "wolf". The lost of contact with family and the feeling of heartache through love were only the beginning of what was to come. The authorial choices supported this because the detailed pictures showed just how much it affected everyone. The speech bubbles also helped explained what was to happen. --Melanie Estrada

When I read the text of The Trip, I feel just plain anger. My movement of thought through the chapter is the hurt and anger that many people went through by being trapped in their country and the lost sense of hope for freedom. There dreams crushed on a brink of war. The authorial choices showed of sequence of events and emanata really showed the character's thoughts and feelings toward their country. When I read chapter 11, I feel the conflicted views of what is right and the belief of the country shouldn't suffer due to its politicians. My movement thought through this shows that the country should not suffer due to some ignorant people running it. Also, the reality of people's take on love and being a hero. The authorial choices showed the conflicted message between the people. When I read chapter 12, I feel awful for the people who lost their homes but also scared of the fact of how people are turning on each other. My movement of thought through this was understanding how a situation can mess with yourself. For example, the Covid situation. The authorial choices supported this by using simple display of images and comments of what the country has become. --Melanie Estrada

Some of the authorial choices shown that she takes is in the speech bubbles, she used all caps in a speech bubble, she shows in a single panel many emotions of many people. She shows agony from the man that was suffering and the variations between speech bubbles.
How I felt was concerned, why is she telling other children about her uncle that was in jail. Not as bad as people fighting over a single piece of food but the shortage of toilet paper and cleaning supplies.

This chapter had a lot going on, from Iran maybe getting some peace but it took them a while to Marji becoming a bully at school. This chapter made me feel sad because Iran goes through a lot just to get some peace that never really stays there and how they still judge people if they are in a lower class or a higher class even if they get a new leader and in the end it made me feel better that Marji mom got on her about acting up in school and teaches her about forgiveness. I enjoyed how Marji used up most of her space in her panels as well.
-paige munoz

while reading chapter 15 I was surprised none the less. My movement of thought was "I did not see marjane as the super rebellious teen" but while reading the chapter I got to see more of the rebelliousness that she had in her. I did enjoy the use of narration to give us a better idea of what is happening.
While reading chapter 16 I felt bad for the friend of marji's dad and for his friends wife. My movement of thought through this text was "oh he's gonna be Abe to get a passport and see his son" until the end of the chapter. One thing I saw a lot of that helped to add to the may ham was Satrapi's use of speech bubbles especially the ones they showed the characters yelling.

while reading chapter 17 I was felt happy for marjane because she was able to enjoy the things she wanted. What I was thinking while reading this text was "marji is interested in a lot of things that were popular at that time in america" and it makes me able to relate to that feeling of listening to my favorite artists to relax or just enjoy the music or walk around in my boots. Another thing I enjoyed in this text was Satrapi's use of narration im this chapter.

while reading chapter 18 I felt miserable for the poor families affected in the bombings. My movement of thought through out this text was "hopefully things end okay and they are able to live without fear" but then marji's neighbors got hit with the missiles and that was traumatic for her. One thing from this text I did see a lot were text bubbles that would indicate how the character was feeling to add more emotion to the text.

while reading the final chapter I felt as if I could understand the feelings mark I had as she was preparing to leave. My movement of thought was more or less one wow we get to see how much she actually cared for everyone in the story. The one this that helped me to understand the story more was the use of narration to describe the Marjane's feelings.

When reading chapter 13, I felt sad for most of the young boys. My movement of thought while reading it made me sad and angry of how they used propaganda or false words mixed with religion to trick many young boys to go into war. Also how many of the techniques used to support their troops were inconvenient and not understandable for many young women and their parents. The authorial choices used to support this show emanata from the main characters to empathize with this situation. When reading chapter 14, I felt fear for many of the people who were in hiding for their safety and excitement for the acts of rebellion to get through these tough times. My movement of thought made me clearly understand of how certain situations can go away with money. Also the danger of what many people face with not having a sense of joy in their life. The authorial choices support this because it shows the events taken place using transitions. It helped me understand of what is happening. --Melanie Estrada

When I read chapter 15, I felt a little rebellious myself. My movement of though through the text was growth. Time has passed and so has Satrapi's way of thinking. Even though her acts can be described as childish but normal for teen standards. The authorial choices support this because the display are the way of words are huge or smaller than others to show what and why is it happening. When I read chapter 16, I felt angry and sad for Uncle Taher. The lost of contact from his son had put a huge dent in his heart. Once in pain, the process they had to go through in order to leave the country but by the time it was too late. The authorial choices supported this because it displayed the use of hand and feet movement. THis helped understand their emotions better. --Melanie Estrada

When I read chapter 17, I felt scared for satrapi but envious of her quick thinking. My movement of thought through this text was the risks her family and herself took in order to survive the heavy rules taken on the people of Iran. Also felt joy that there was a sense of freedom for the people to go and explore more than their country. The authorial choices supported this because of the narration she used on her and her family. It helped me see some things from her view. --Melanie Estrada

When I read chapter 18, I felt sad and grief for the poor family. The death that Satrapi has witnessed for her to feel just as worse. My movement of thought through this text was how terrible it was for her and her neighborhood to be bombed. It was a traumatic experience and the bracelet seen gave it that much meaning. The authorial choices seen that support my thinking was the blank panel and it really described how bad it was. --Melanie Estrada

My movement of thought through this chapter was how much her place in life in her home country was not what she and her family wanted. I understood her feelings better toward the people in her life even though she couldn't show it in order to be strong and as time passed by. The authorial choices supports this because the display of sequence of events and the description of words. --Melanie Estrada
