      <title>Class Activities: Mastering Multiple-Choice Questions by Li Chen</title>
      <link>https://padlet.com/chenl31/sflvu6k3rigfdv5q</link>
      <description>Guidelines for Writing Multiple Choice Questions:
Stem (Question or problem):
•	Use clear and concise language that avoids unnecessary complexity or ambiguity.
•	Employ positive phrasing in the stem.
•	Avoid using absolute terms like &quot;never,&quot; &quot;always,&quot; or &quot;only.&quot;
o	If they are necessary, emphasize them by bolding or capitalizing.
•	Use negative phrasing only when essential for learning outcomes and make sure negative terms are highlighted to stand out to the test-taker.
•	Exclude irrelevant material from the stem.
•	Formulate the stem as a direct question or an incomplete sentence.
•	Review tip: Have someone else read and take the test to check for clarity and effectiveness.

Alternatives (correct answer and distractors) should:
•	Be plausible, clear, and concise.
•	Should be mutually exclusive to prevent confusion.
o	Avoid &quot;trick&quot; items or alternatives with overlapping content.
•	Ensure the content of the alternatives is homogeneous.
•	Alternatives must be free from any clues that could reveal the correct answer.
•	Maintain grammatical consistency with the stem.
•	Alternatives should be parallel in form and similar in length.
