History:
The first person to use advertisement was French newspaper La Presse in June 1863. They gave space on the newspaper for people to advertise their products and business for a fee.

Examples of company using advertisement:
Tetly Tea
Healthy Eating
Loyeds TSB

What is the advantage of animation in this area?
Animation is much cheaper than live action adverts this is because there are less people involved meaning that there are less people to pay to do the advert.

Also because they are animated characters they have a longer shelf life than live action adverts this is because the actors that do the adverts age but the animated characters would not.

Disadvantage of using animation for advertisement?
can take longer

The phi phenomenon is the optical illusion of perceiving a series of still images, when viewed in rapid succession, as continuous motion. Max Wertheimer, one of the three founders of Gestalt psychology, defined this phenomenon in 1912.
The phi phenomenon is similar to beta movement in that both cause sensation of movement. However, the phi phenomenon is an apparent movement caused by luminous impulses in sequence, whereas beta movement is an apparent movement caused by luminous stationary impulses

Beta movement is an optical illusion, first described by Max Wertheimer in 1912, whereby a series of static images on a screen creates the illusion of a smoothly flowing scene. This occurs when the frame rate is greater than 10 to 12 separate images per second.
