I am a professor of Mathematics. I have been teaching in a small liberal arts college, Colby-Sawyer College, in New Hampshire for the last 19 years.

Last semester, I taught a first year experience course by collaborating with a university in Turkey. Our students worked on group projects based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We would be interested in collaborating with colleagues from Norway, Japan or South Korea to offer another course which focuses on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

I teach several sections of Introduction to Statistics course. Collaborating on the representation of quantitative information by using statistical concepts and tools is another possibility.

In January of 2020, Smith College in the US and KonKuk University, a large private institution in Seoul, Korea began a conversation about helping college students imagine purposeful and intentional pathways forward. Smith had just started a course called “Designing your own Path” to equip students with tools to plan, articulate, integrate, and reflect on their educational goals and future pathways and based on Smith’s model KonKuk built its own course PATH which is a liberal arts credit course co-taught by 4 faculty members from different disciplines. PATH focuses on finding a sense of purpose as a college student and it is now in its 6^th semester with one session in Korean and one in English. The course has been well received by the students and other faculty members. Most recently, Smith and KonKuk have together been thinking about how bringing students who are millions of miles apart but are grappling with the same questions and dilemmas such as, finding the real core of oneself and dealing with uncertainty in their futures, may help us get closer to developing true global citizenship. We are still in the initial stages of collaboration and we would like to find a Norwegian collaborator who is interested in thinking through these issues with us. We feel that South Korea, U.S. and Norway each have distinct educational contexts and histories that offer a great platform to add breath and depth to helping students develop the skills needed to lead fulfilling personal and professional lives in their immediate and extended communities.

I am the Coordinator of the Global Awareness general education course at Chestnut Hill College (CHC), and while I am new to COIL, I have been involved in global learning courses and activities for 19 years. Each semester CHC offers 6-9 Global Awareness seminars (15 students); each student must take a seminar as a graduation requirement, so all of our graduates have a basic introduction to global issues and citizenship. We are looking for partners in Norway, Japan, and/or South Korea to build on a project that I have been running for several years in my own courses that features 2-4 member student teams--my courses have partnered with universities from Britain, Belgium, and the UK-- who interview each other on selected topics agreed upon by me and the cooperating instructors. The topics have included globalization, democracy, immigration, human rights, economic development, culture, technological change, climate change, resource scarcity, global terrorism, the United Nations SDGs, and international institutions. We here at CHC are interested to design an extension of my project which will feature multiple student team interviews with the participating country/ies that could address these topics and/or other themes that have a global reach. I have attached a copy of a previous single interview assignment that can be modified as agreed upon in our partnership. I am thinking that our students could collaborate with your students in 4-6 interviews with a culminating reflection. This culminating reflection could be an asynchronous video presentation that could be shared by each participating institution with each other, or a real-time culminating debate among student teams based on their learning on one of the topics covered in their interviews, or some other culminating project among the teams. This fall's COIL project would involve one or two CHC Global Awareness 15 student seminars as a pilot, with the possibility to scale the project in the future to all Global Awareness seminars offered in a semester (90-130 students).
