That first mission was such a success! Flying in the mission Liberty Bell 7 was one of the coolest things ever. It was about 8:30 when I launched up into space and saw some really cool things. I went up into space, and I saw all of the stars, some planets, the Sun, and some asteroids that were up there. That was a really neat experience. When we came down, I plunged into the ocean, and I almost drowned in the water. I made it out alive, and my team back at NASA was beyond proud. Me being in the Air Force earlier in my life had really paid off on that mission. That would not be the only incredible thing that I do.

It was a very nice day in Florida as I climbed into the rocket that I would take my next mission in, the Gemini 3. It was another morning launch for me, and it would be the first double-manned mission. I went up with John Young, and we had an incredible mission. We launched at 9:24 in the morning. The force on my chest was incredible, and John looked very frightened, this being his first time in space. I had already done this before, and it was really awesome to do it again. We came down with no problem. This was a massive accomplishment for John and I.

I have accomplished so much throughout the course of my life. First, I was the very first person to fly up to space twice. A lot of people think that going up to space is a big deal, which it is. But being the first person to fly up to space twice is a much bigger deal. Second, I would be awarded the Space Medal of Honor in 1978. This is another very big achievement, and not a lot of other astronauts get this award. Also, I was selected to be on the very first Apollo mission. This was such a cool achievement at the time because every astronaut had dreamed of doing this. I am very lucky to have been the recipient of this award. Overall, I have achieved so many things in my life, and I am so grateful to have all of this.
