A legend stated that, the name Tasek Merimbun derived from a son of the village chief from Kampung Merangking in the Belait District named 'Imbun'. Imbun got lost when he went hunting and stumbled on a beautiful lake. He saw the lake was rich with fish and its surroundings with vegetation and fertile soil

•Tasek Merimbun is indeed both a natural and cultural heritage of Brunei. Thus, it is now being referred to as the gateway to Brunei's past and culture. Tasek Merimbun is a wildlife sanctuary, conservation spot for flora and fauna, recreational center, and a venue for research and education.

•The park is home to a number of rare and endangered species, such as all eight species of hornbills in Borneo, clouded leopard, slow loris, tarsier, sun bear, great argus pheasant, Bornean gibbon, white-bellied sea eagle, and the Vordermann's flying squirrel.

•Tasek Merimbun is very dark in color; a phenomenon generated by tannin coming from leaves falling into the water. The lake supports a rich variety of fauna including birds, mammals, and reptiles. Visitors can hire a boat to take them around to explore the lake and its two islands.

-ASEAN Heritage Park In 1967, the first Director of the Brunei Museums Department suggested Tasek Merimbun as a valuable asset and a potential Wildlife Sanctuary. A survey on Tasek Merimbun's bio-diversity and socio-economic activities conducted in 1983-84 led to the discovery of a rare White-collared Fruit Bat.

-It is the Park's mission to preserve the history of the early West and to educate and entertain guests of all ages for many generations to come. Heritage Park stretches far beyond a collection of antiques, attractions, and displays.

The lake is in the shape of an ‘S’ and is connected to the main island via a wooden footbridge. This area was declared as an ASEAN heritage site back in 1984 owing to the rare flora and fauna inhabiting the area. The Tasek Merimbun beholds the water from the streams of river Sungai Meluncur and Sungai Bang Oncom. The water of the lake is blackish in colour owing to the fact that the water moves through woodlands loaded with peat. Credits to google

It is a survey on Tasek Merimbun's bio-diversity and socio-economic activities conducted in 1983 led to the discovery of a rare White-collared Fruit Bat. This discovery was a major reason for the 29 November 1984 designation of Tasek Merimbun Heritage Park as the first ASEAN Heritage Park.
