I think the effectiveness of this approach still hinges on the principal’s approach and support to make this happen. I was on a math planning team to plan a math night. The principal was excited she had some passionate leaders to spearhead this unfortunately her support was basically hallow. She refused to provide release time and school funds to make this happen. This was very disheartening and we eventually decided to cancel the event. She wanted participation but lacked the support required for the team.

I imagine if we use the positive reward system here, having in place some positive outcomes for participation, then this approach could work well. The required effort to participate needs to be supported (not only task completion, but time for processing, brainstorming, reflection, etc.)
