Kenya contained fertile highlands which attracted many European farmers. The British mainly wanted to colonize Kenya due to it giving way to Uganda which was known as a strategic source of the Nile river . Also, like many other African countries,  Kenya were rich in gold , iron ,coffee , timber and ivory, which attracted many European countries. Also, Kenya provided sunlight which Britain did not have often meaning that they could benefit from growing crops in Kenya and shipping back to Britain. There was alot  of fertile lands which was good for farming. The Kenyans grew cotton, tea coffee and timber. This offered the British cheap labour as they sold these resources for a very high price without paying much or even anything for them. Kenya also had ivory and gold.
