The cartoon below gives a reason why drivers should be given tickets for packing on sidewalks. The rate of accidents are likely to increase because the pedestrians are knocked down by vehicles because they won't know when a vehicle is approaching them.

Drivers Should Not be Given Ticket for Packing on LA Sidewalks.

This is a reason why drivers should not be given tickets for parking on sidewalks.

by Ebelechukwu Okonkwo
For over five years, parking enforcement has not cited people parking on parkways. Drivers parking their vehicles on LA sidewalks is now a problem and causes conflict between the driver and pedestrian. There is more conflict between drivers and pedestrians. The conflict is a little different from most driver-pedestrian conflict in that both the car and the pedestrian were on the sidewalk. Los Angeles City Council should decide on a policy for parkway parking.

With the idea of stopping enforcement on these spaces, city officials could have some time to create new policies to provide enough parking space for drivers to park on and decrease the rate of conflict between drivers and pedestrians.

Bianca Barragan claims that "Over time, cars hopping the curb has taken its toll. Angry residents say the cars are destroying the grass and chipping away at the curbs. Pedestrians complain that drivers are taking advantage of the space they can find."

Joe Linton argues that "Late at night, more than a dozen cars rest on parkways in some blocks of East Hollywood, Koreatown and Westlake, Vehicle wheels have left grass rutted with tire tracks and crumbling curbs. It difficult for people in wheelchairs to get around the cars parked across the sidewalks." However, my argument is stronger because if drivers are allowed to park on sideways, without given tickets, it will increase the rate of accidents.

Non-enforcement of parking laws effectively gives over sidewalk public spaces to cars. Drivers are favored over pedestrians. And this has another class aspect to it: the poorest in my neighborhoods don’t have cars. Allowing drivers to take over public spaces means shifting space from the have-not to the haves.

Isabel Gallegos argues that "it is should be understandable that many of these car owners don’t have a lot of resources, and the drivers are doing the best they can. Paying for off-street parking would be a burden on them (though many people rent off-street parking from a church.) Paying for parkway parking tickets could be a serious burden, if the city resumes enforcement." by Isabel Gallegos.

The more we privilege drivers and disadvantage pedestrians, the more cars we get, the more lives traffic violence claims, the worse it gets for people on foot.

Moreover, both drivers and pedestrians (poor and rich) should be treated equally.

Cities regulate every aspect of parking, using everything from time limits for on-street parking to zoning requirements for off-street parking, in solution to this problem cities also employ legions of parking enforcement officers to ensure that drivers obey these regulations, and tickets for parking violations are a major revenue source.

Drivers should not be given ticket for packing in LA sidewalks

by Chukwuemeka Okonkwo
Divers parking on sidewalks is probably okay in a full on emergency. Drivers should not be judged by law enforcement by being given ticket. The packing space provided for drivers is less than the vehicle's driven. When there is less parking space, drivers are forced to park on sidewalks. When there is less parking space the drivers can pack on the sidewalks except there is space provided for the driver's vehicle. When there is less parking space the drivers have reason, right and are allowed to park on sidewalk. Drivers struggle to put their vehicle in the right parking space but since there is no more parking space left, drivers now park in the sidewalk. Government should ensure that drivers do not lack parking space. Government should also ensure that drivers have enough parking space to park their vehicles.

It is not the drivers fault that they are parking on the sidewalk. Why i say so is because, the drivers do not have enough room or space to park their vehicle. Because there is no space for drivers to park their vehicle, they have no other choice but to park their vehicle on the LA sidewalk and because of that, Government should not see that or should not see it as any reason to give the drivers tickets for parking on the LA sidewalk and also giving tickets to drivers is like punishment given to the drivers that are parking on LA sidewalks when they do not deserve any punishment or tickets.

During the suspension of the parkway law, the police still issues 102(One hundred and two) tickets to drivers parked on parkways 2015 and 2016, according to city data. "They never should have issued the drivers the 102 tickets because it is not the drivers fault for parking on La sidewalk". Once the city council approves a new parkway policy, parking enforcement will spend sometime educating the drivers, rather than resuming ticketing immediately. That could also include leaving fliers on the windshields of the drivers vehicle, instead of citation.

For more than three years, the LA city council has told parking officers not to tickets any cars or drivers vehicle parked on parkways - an umbrella term that includes the public land between the sidewalk and the curb, as well as the slopping aprons that connect driveways to the street. The council's 2011 decision to suspend parkway enforcement came in response to an outcry from resident who had been cited for parking on driveways aprons.

A lull in enforcement, officials said, would give drivers some relief and gave the city time to craft new polices.

Individuals or drivers should complain to the government in constructing enough space for the drivers to be able to park their vehicles not on the sidewalk but on the driving space provided by the government.
