I have notifications set up from the app to get an email with the updates but I could turn that off and/or get notifications directly to my phone. Overall, I like the app and that I have a one stop place to find any communication for both of my kids’ schools (one middle and one high school). However, my school district sends a ton of notifications - and one right after another. Between the 2 schools I sometimes will get 8-10 emails within a few minutes. I would MUCH prefer they sent one update from each school with all of the information rather then a separate update for each topic.

However most of our teachers communicated with us via email with individual issues and via papers sent home for classwide/schoolwide info. We found the teachers were great at getting back to us and appreciated the ease of email. I always wished more event info was available in an email or website (yes, I've been known to lose the paperwork that came home). Our new school district uses Skyward for grades but communication is mainly email. The principal sends emails every two weeks or so with general info and teacher sends weekly email which I really like. Our current teacher typically responds to an email with a phone call. Here's the big new info: living in an area with snow days and snow delays they have "emergency communication" completely dialed in because they use it multiple times a year. For snow days/delays parents receive a phone message AND email with superintendent's message. It's not so fun being woken up at 5 am with these messages, but that's how it goes.
