The President is the leader who will make sure everyone follows the rules. If the President can't do their job, the Vice President will take over. If the President does something seriously wrong, they can be tried and possibly removed from power (impeached).

Article V

The Constitution can be changed, although it isn't easy. Leaders can suggest a change, or most of the States can ask for a meeting to suggest it. Most of the States have to agree on the change before it can happen. Once it's agreed upon the change can be added to the constitution.

Article VI

The gov't will honor all promises it made before the Constitution. The Constitution is the highest law/authority in the nation. Everybody who works in the government must agree to support and protect the Constitution.

We all agree to join together to make our country better. We want it to be fair, peace and protection at home, everyone to have a good life, and freedom now and for the future. We use these rules for the United States.

22nd Amendment

Presidents can only serve for two terms, eight years maximum. If a president takes over for someone else, they can serve a little longer, but ten years max.

6th Amendment

Everyone reserves the right to a quick, public, and fair trial. They have a right to a lawyer to help defend them, giving them a fair chance in court.

4th Amendment

The police can't search you without permission, and they have to explain why they want to search you. This protects you, your home, and your belongings.

15th Amendment

Everyone can vote! Nobody can be stopped because of their race, color, previous enslavement, religion, etc. This gives everyone a fair vote in elections.

16th Amendment

(Maybe use this as dues or something in the book) The gov't reserves the right to tax people's income. This money is used for things the country needs - roads, school, safety.

26th Amendment

25th Amendment

If the President is unable to do his job, dies, or resigns, the Vice Prez will take over. If something happens to the VP, the President will select a new one, but Congress has to agree. If the President is temporarily unable, the VP can take over for a bit.

24th Amendment

Nobody has to pay to vote. This means anyone can vote, regardless of economic means.

3rd Amendment

The government can't make soldiers live in your house during peace time. Even when it's not peace time, during war, soldiers can only stay if the law says so. This keeps your home and privacy protected.

9th Amendment

The Constitution lists many rights, but it is not extensive. People have other rights that aren't listed. Just because a right isn't written down, doesn't mean you don't have it.

Making, selling, transporting alcohol is illegal in the U.S.
