Hi! I'm Adam Smith. I am a philosopher and often called "the father of capitalism." The same place I my wife, Margaret Douglas, and was born in is Scotland. My birthday is 5 June 1723, technically the same day I was baptized. My father sadly passed away six months before my "birth".

I was appointed professor of logic at Glasgow university! I spent a year as the professor of logic, then I was elected a member of the Philosophical Society of Edinburgh. Sadly the head of Moral Philosophy in Glasgow died the next year, but I took over the position. I have been an academic for about 10 years now, and i'm planning on doing more. These years have by far, been the most useful and therefore the happiest and most honorable period of my life.

I published my first book back in 1759, The Theory of Moral Sentiments, and it was a hit! Same thing for my second book, An Inquiry Into The Nature and Causes of The Wealth of Nations, they both were all over the streets. The Wealth of nations, as it was abbreviated, was named among the 100 Best Scottish Books of all time.

Compared to some other enlightenment thinkers, I devoted most of my time to the economic ideas of the enlightenment. One idea that I had, was the idea of laissez-faire and the law of supply which created the basic concepts of modern economics. The books that I have published, are also another great example of my ideas of economic growth through the enlightenment era.

Which the first quote means, it is not out of the kindness of producers that we are able to purchase what we want to consume, but the benefit that they will receive from selling their product. The second one meaning, man is the only animal who has the mental capacity to bargain and trade items. A dog won't trade 2 bones with another dog, to get their plate of food.
