I would allow my student to present the video, because it’s an accurate representation on what we go through as black people— oppression. There’s nothing to sugarcoat about it, and everyone should see it for what it is.

Definitely would play the beginning part. To help students become advocates in their community they need to know both the good and bad sides of that community. In my opinion, you can’t fully contribute to the community without knowing everything.

I feel like students need to be comfortably grappling with controversial topics despite different opinions. It’s very likely students, even middle schoolers, have heard this song, and I think teachers need to realize that our students are exposing themselves to content that may not be suitable for schools anyways. I think that if the student presenting this song can really get to the heart of what the song is about effectively, and maybe worst case avoid the inappropriate parts of the song, then I think this can lead to a very effective classroom discussion

I would allow my student to present this song as well, because it’s an accurate representation of what people of color go through, and what it feels like to be oppressed. It’s also a good message of motivation and empowerment, to not let any of it deter you from your passions.

I would tell my students that I love how they want to talk about the deeper meaning of the song but it is not appropriate in some settings (ex. School). If they use the clean version, I feel that I would allow students to share it.

I believe it should be cause it tackles an issue that needs to be discussed and shouldn't be ignored, and music as an expression of conflict is just as important as music in any other context, sometimes more useful
