As one can see, enunciation is a key, yet highly overlooked, element in music. The way an artist enunciates their words could demonstrate a great number of things about the artist themselves. For example, take a rapper who seems to “mumble,” such as Lil Uzi Vert in “You Was Right” . This mumbling could be indicative of a number of things, including a language barrier, cultural influence, or even the artist’s style preference. As for the language barrier, some artists may try to appeal to an audience that isn’t their own. An example of this might be some K-pop artists, such as BTS, who may try to appeal to American audiences by singing in English even though they don’t speak the language. According to the British Council’s article “Developing Pronunciation Through Songs,” “there are no 'standard' songs for teaching pronunciation. Any song can be an example of different pronunciation aspects.” This implies that different songs are composed of many differences in terms of how the words are said, depending on both the artists’ backgrounds and the nature of the songs. Besides the importance of these phonetic qualities, word choice is also shown to be an important and personal aspect of an individual. We use words to communicate on a daily basis. How one says and pronounce their words can say a lot about that person’s characteristic. Another article is from Bodhih, stating how grammar is an important aspect of communication, which is used on a daily basis. “Grammar is very important because it helps enhance accuracy. A person with a poor grammar skill can form negative impression on the first-time meeting and this may last for a long time. For listeners, a proper use of grammar shows that their thought is concerned. Speakers do not want them to waste time trying to figure out what they are saying.
