Programming language is a vocabulary and set of grammatical rules of instructing a computer or computing device to perform specific tasks. The term programming language usually refer to high-level language (BASIC,C,C++,JAVA).

Each programming language has unique set of keywords and special syntax for organizing system instructions.

 

C++

Developed at Bell Labs by Bjarne Stroustrup in 1980

An Extension of the C language

Evolved from C and SIMULA 67

Large and complex language, in part because it supports both procedural and object-oriented programming

Pros

·         Extremely popular, so there are many support available

·         Has large base of freely available code for download

·         Very powerful, can be used to create just create about any program.

·         Every major operating system has C++ compiler because C++ program are purposely written for portability will work on many major operating systems with little change of code.

·         Has been standardized by International Standards Association

·         Has significant number of open source libraries available.

 

Cons

·         Not very safe by itself 

·         No memory management built-in by default. Developer have to use external libraries.

·         Does not offer full algebraic data types.

·         More difficult learning curve than some other languages.
