1) The Three Gorges Dam has played an important role in the ecosystem in the surrounding area. Dan Hua at the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation states that, "Decline of native fishes and riparian vegetation, sedimentation and related flooding, degradation of habitat, and changes to downstream temperature and flow are all related to dam operation."

2) The TGD during operation causes for great amounts of and erosion, which takes place upstream and causes severe amounts of water pollution.




Pros:
1) The dam houses the greatest technological advances of the modern day. The Dam has the capability of managing the water flow.  This in turn ,makes the dam versatile.

2) The total capacity of the Three Gorges Dam is 18.2 million kilowatts and the annual power generation is 84.7 billion kilowatt hours. The greta amount of power the dam has means that it has the ability to greatly diminish the electricity pressure in middle and eastern China.

3) The running of the Three Gorges Dam, more specifically the hydropower station, can reduce the emissions of ten million tons of carbon dioxide, one to two million tons of sulfur dioxide, 300,000 to 400,000 tons of oxynitride, 10,000 tons of carbon monoxide and 150,000 tons of dust.






Judgement:
With the addition of the TGD only the central Chinese government its self has benefited. The environment
such as lakes rivers and streams have been negatively affected and make the argument that the Dam is not a good idea to construct.

1) The TGD costs about $10.4 billion dollars to construct over the course of 14 years of being built.

2) Negatively effected the economy as the average Chinese worker makes around $5,000 dollars a year. 

3)Caused for many Chinese to relocate, causing for millions of citizens to become unemployed.


Pros:
1)  The TGD although pricey has generated lots of revenue over the years. The dam brings thousands and thousands of tourists to visit one of the new, 'Wonders of the World.

2) With China housing the largest number of population, the dam is able to provide the energy source that the people and government need and desperately rely on. This energy can be transferred towards supporting the industrial industry, and helps balance out the economy.

3) The Three Gorges Dam is one of the worlds biggest source of electricity. The dam is able to pump out 18.2 gW of electrical power. This helps sustain the rest of the country,.





Judgment.
Although the Dam brings in a lot of revenue and has great amounts of power, the negative aspects of the Dam ally to all the Chinese citizens, making it hard for them to survive due to frequent relocation and loss of jobs.

1) One of the major social cons of the Dam is worker relocation. Workers not only are forced to move, but loose their job and are not compensated. This negatively 
effects the economy and makes it harder for every Chinese citizen to make a good living.

2) Not only does the Dam effect the surrounding 
area, but the Dam also affects the rural communities as well. The Dam has destroyed vital ac=gricultural societies and made farming more difficult.

3) The building of the Dam with its thousand of pounds of concrete would mean that it has the potential to cause giant earthquakes and landslides, which could harm neighboring towns and cities.

Pros:
1) The dam’s system can control and manage water flow, so it has the ability to regulate flood safety.

2)  The dam can have a wide transport system, bringing more and more people in and out of China


Judgment:
Although the Dam has many Social positives, the negatives of the worker relocation, image to surrounding area and natural disaster possibility make the construction of the Dam one to reconsider.
